Decent buy on price, scarcity of NE notes Good buy, NE notes and Desoto Bank are not rare, but not common either, reflecting your price...Lower right guy is Daniel Webster.....a vignette used on dozens of obsolete notes...from Wikipedia which has much, more on this historical figure.. Daniel Webster (January 18, 1782 – October 24, 1852) was a leading American senator and statesman during the era of the Second Party System, which was the political system in the United States from about 1828 to 1854, characterized by rapidly increasing voter interest and personal loyalty to parties. Webster was the outstanding spokesman for American nationalism with powerful oratory that made him a key Whig leader. He spoke for conservatives, and led the opposition to Democrat Andrew Jackson and his Democratic Party. He was a spokesman for modernization, banking, and industry, but not for the common people who composed the base of his opponents in Jacksonian Democracy. "He was a thoroughgoing elitist, and he reveled in it," says biographer Robert Remini.[1] During his 40 years in national politics, Webster served in the House of Representatives for eight years (representing New Hampshire and then Massachusetts) and in the Senate for 19 years (representing Massachusetts), and served as the United States Secretary of State twice for a total of more than four years, under presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore.[2]
This was an accidental pickup; got my lot numbers mixed up and bid on this lot instead of the one I really was after. Happens when one gets in a hurry and doesn't pay attention. Oh well, minor error (upper left has partial overprint of reverse). == ==
Woah that would be sweet to have that. It's cool to see how they were packaged. I had never seen that before. Do you think it's possible there's one of those boxes out there somewhere unopened?
