Well, it looks like Photobucket finally got their act together, for a couple weeks it was like ice skating up a hill, so now that it's back up, time to keep uploading new pickups... Today's is an old timer obsolete $2 from 1825. The interestingly named New Jersey Protection and Lombard Bank. I don't know about you, but when I think of money, New Jersey, and protection, I think of "Hey, youz guyz gotta pay up or sumtin' might happen to youz store you got heah..."
Today's new pickup is this sharp looking 1914 $10 FRN from Dallas, my collecting district of choice. Burke Houston sigs a little more desirable. Always a little unstable seeing Jackson on the $10, but he does look happier in his repose here than his grumpier visage on the $20...
Today's new pick up is two Two TWO notes in one! These two notes are the original 1946 and the later provisional 1967 release of this snazzy two Colones note from Costa Rica. The overprint on the provisional note shows the new date and the new bank, now the Central Bank of Costa Rica. Costa Rica has some dazzling notes, the vivid red/hot fuchsia front pops off the paper, with the pleasant and more reserved design on the rear. Another design from ABNCo that doesn't disappoint.
MEC2, your Costa Rica note reminded me of this Mozambique note; P115 with the Banco de Mozambique overprint making it a P119. Oh, and a replacement note also -- two for one. (Maybe 3 for 1 ??) ==
Today's new pickup is an 1840 Maryland obsolete $5 from the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company. A satisfying note with many design elements, the 3D cameos, bold signatures, and just a hint of circulation to savor the flavor...
Picked up several notes during the past two weeks: Jefferson City, Missouri: $20 186? Missouri Defense Bond (Criswell-21A) Jefferson City, Missouri: $1 186? Missouri Defense Bond (Criswell-18) Montgomery, Alabama: $5 Jan. 1, 1864 (Criswell-15)
Ships, a train, and a wonderful portrait of Washington adorns this lovely note from the Commercial Bank in Gratiot, Michigan. The bank was formed around 1838, but never got around to opening... Gratiot, Michigan: $5 18[38] Commercial Bank (Haxby MI-200-G6)
Ditto! Seems to be a very interesting story behind the formation of that bank. Here is another pickup that I was looking for, albeit, not the full sheet. The Native American imagery was what drove me to pick up this series: Omaha City, Nebraska Territory: Western Exchange Fire & Marine Insurance Co. $1-$2-$3-$5 Nov. 2, 1857
Another full sheet pickup to complement the previous one: Ann Arbor, Michigan: Millers Bank of Washtenaw $1-$2-$3-$5 18?? (Haxby G2-G4-G6-G8)
