Today's new pickup is a sharp looking $2 obsolete remainder from the Farmington Bank. Nice design here with big engravings and good detail. Add in the colored overprint and the special bonus is the printed reverse in green, those two sided obsoletes were few and far between... just a nice design.
A few notes from past weekend coin show: == nice $5 Red seal with face plate B1 and back plate 1 == nice Silver Certificate; really nice price == nice $10 FRN LGS == really nice $5 Silver Certificate, scarce GA block
Won this $2 1976 District Star set in recent Heritage auction: Of course, the E-Richmond; G-Chicago; I-Minneapolis; and L-San Francisco are the "expensive" ones. But all are VERY nice.
Nice notes @techwriter My latest note back from grading. I see quite a few FR.2211-G notes in XF, but very few of them have original paper. Great service from Superior Grading.
REALLY like the $1000, really nice!! I've considered using Superior and may give them a try, looks like they did well on this particular note. Too bad they don't do foreign notes.
Who doesn't like a lime $1k note? Nobody worth knowing... And as it turns out, my own new pickup today is this lime green seal 1928-B $20 from Minnesota. Nice overall condition with a real pop on that lime green ink...
Great framing on that $10, makes it a real standout. Today's new pickup is this caramel $5 from the prolific State Bank of South Carolina. A pretty common bank with alot of popular designs. I do like a nice building street scene vignette and this one has it as well as that red overprint for character... and I like the sigs, big and colorful and loopy with character. It's no Spinner sig, but they just strike me as nice examples...
Thanks. I noticed that it is a drop wider than some of my other large size notes. Certainly something that would not be expected with current mass-production methods!!
Something a little different. Money from when the US owned the Philippines. Depression era. I've always liked how this money is so similar to ours during that time.
Since the BEP designed and printed those Philippine notes, they should look similar - heck, I think many of them are better than are small size notes. The cranberry backed fifty is zazzy... Today's new pickup is this Bank of Lexington five. The red overprint is great if faded, a nice early ABNCo design. The slave picking cotton at lower right features on a popular CSA note of the time (I believe the CSA note is derivative of this vignette, not identical), and cotton is the overall theme with the large central vignette of possibly Ceres or Moneta (or both!) on a cotton bale, and a scene of it looks like maybe cotton baling at the bottom right. Shows how important cotton was to the South... maybe if they could have just picked it themselves alot of fuss could have been avoided a short time later.
Always have liked that Costa Rica five note, I collect the larger issues and a couple of the modern, this one included, nice example... Today's new pickup is a $20 obsolete from The Bank of the State of Georgia. Nice design, I love big bald eagles on notes, so this is a winner, slightly different layout, Ceres on the left I think, and the rare printed reverse, this one in big red...
Well golly, I skip a few days and this thread goes to sleep... sorry for the delay, alot of crap going on. And... a new pile of unscanned notes has reached over an inch high... again... sigh... Today's new pickup is from the Bank of the Republic, a collectible Rhode Island bank with many nice issues and good availability. This ace is well traveled with the always popular eagle at left and President Kickass front and center. The red overprint is a nice touch as always. Hope you like this series because there's more to come...
Some of us don't get new notes every day! I'm mostly a coin collector, but have been (very slowly) building up a small collection. I'm certainly interested in what everyone has, but might post twice or three times a year (if that often).
Inquisitive--don't be bashful! Post whatever, whenever as you have a captive audience just waiting to share your excitement and enthusiasm! Me for one, as it's ALWAYS great to share another's good fortune and enthusiasm. I may not collect what "floats your boat" but I'll always be glad for you.
Pickup from the coin show today. A vendor has a box full of these things! Cheaper than any I've ever seen so I grabbed a few. The Japanese one has some writing and a date.
Friend of mine did some work over seas and brought me back 3 notes. Two from Kuwait and one from Dubai. Enjoy.
