Welcome to Cointalk. Large Size notes can be expensive but they are great to collect. Most people have never even seen one.
Okay, here's a small size I picked up at same show (cheap, too) Got this one also, but unfortunately it is a counterfeit:
Got this from the bank a few weeks ago: Picked this replacement note from a coin/pawn shop for $2; gotta love 'em:
Today's new pickup is an obsolete deuce from The Planters Bank in Georgia. The big deuce sports the enormous engraved counter on the left, a couple of floating figures off center, and a red reverse, always a bonus.
Wonderful note, I used the large 2 from the obverse on another thread as an example of techniques used to help stop counterfeiting. The large 2 is from an engraved steel die and the DETAILS and DEPTHS are nearly impossible to counterfeit. Thanks for posting
Today's new pickup is a sharp designed obsolete $20 from the New York Loan Company. The engraving is nice on this, very rich looking, really like the left margin intricacy. And it has a Cherub riding a %$U*ing Lion, that's STOUT. It's like an Old Spice commercial, only on paper money. A Cherub on a Lion FTW...
How about a nice Chinese radar number? Roman numerals ( VI IX VI ) no less. Our number: 696 of course
As I looked closely at this one, I realized that it's actually a mini bond, payable one year after issued with 2.5 percent interest. I've seen post-Civil War mini-bonds that circulated as currency, but never one this early. Very intriguing!
