Today's new get is a sharp obsolete, this series is really sharp, nice ornate numerals, stark green overprint, a quality design on great paper...

Not to be a party pooper, but I believe these are thought to be reprints, hence the "great paper".

It's just a remainder that was never issued into circulation.

Haha, I'm very aware of what a remainder is. What I'm saying is that multiple people, whose opinion I trust, believe these particular 'New England Commercial Bank' notes on the thicker white paper to be reprints from the original plates. It is important that this kind of information be included so that people don't come on here, see it, decide they want one and then spend their hard earned money on something that is not what they believe it to be. I've noticed that there is a lot of not so informed obsolete currency information on this forum. Just trying to bridge the gap a little for the benefit of all.

I guess it's just how you say it. We don't know if this note is on the thicker white paper or not. At least I can't tell from the picture. To add the comment as a possibility is just fine. That way you can't be considered a party pooper, which is your intent. Correct? Maybe the words "great paper" caused your concern but it is not a given, at least not yet. However, I'm glad to see a knowledgeable paper currency collector join our boards. We are always open to comments that help clarify or add to the information given here. Welcome.

Great info. I've seen your posts on the PCGS forum. Glad to have you over here as well.

JB - I think these are from cut remainder sheets, but cannot know for sure. Most reprints I have seen do not have the colored overprint protector. That's not definitive, just what I've seen. Now, I did recently get some reprints, but I did buy them as such. Also, most reprints don't seem to have the fine detail of originals - not sure why, if the plates are just well worn and the detail is gone, or what.

Any more info is welcome, reprint or not - and these notes are both common and affordable, so I think folks probably get a decent deal regardless if it is a reprint or not. If it is a reprint, it's probably the only way you'll end up with an affordable copy of this design, so if it's the original plates - the same plates printed an unissued note and it was cut up, just about a complete wash from my chair...

Today's new get is from the same bank as the last note, the New England Commercial Bank, but a much earlier design. This one also has alot of engraving detail, and I do like the center vignette. This one is serialized and dated 1846 as well as made payable, but not signed, which is interesting.

So today's new pickup is definitely a change of pace - here's a new star for my 1934 and earlier star collection. Been a while since I could get one, and the more I get, the fewer I need, so the more infrequent they become. Speaking of infrequent, this is a $20 1934-B so it's tough to get right off the bat. I'll take a 34B in pretty much any condition and worry about getting picky about condition later...

    Fantastic notes everybody !

My latest include an example of an error note I've always wanted, a small size type 2 National from a city my younger brother and his family lives, and a cool bond certificate with a nice intaglio design on the back from Ogden Utah, where my oldest son lives.

Today's new pickup is a really great obsolete, this Citizens' Bank note has tons of great engraving, a vivid color back, a delicate overprint in color on the front - just a sharp note all around.

That has to be the coolest "20" counter I've ever seen!

Yeah, I like when they ornately engrave the counter with cherubs (not a fan of cherubs normally, sort of creepy) or other designs...

Getting ready for vacation so a big gap is coming to go with the little recent gaps, here today is a new pickup which is a sharp remainder that has alot of great elements and well engraved from those fine chaps at ABNCo. Their quality always shows. Ships on a note are always a bonus, steamships capture the cutting edge of technology of their age and always look good, as does a vivid colored counterfeit protector, this one a nice green...

Today's new pickup is a new entry for my Dallas nationals collection, trying of course to get as many Dallas banks as I can (and large size Dallas fed notes, the $50 and $100 continue to elude me...). Any time I can get a new bank I take it, and this note was a nicely priced example in the right condition... kudos to the bank for taking the time to cut the note VERY nicely... no sloppy borders on this one!

sent this one to PCGSC a few weeks ago. Bill is crisp. obvious missing pieces. faint fold lines. missing piece at bottom looks like bill was burned, and someone trimmed away most of the charred area. I'm guessing a "20-25 App." with derogatory remarks. Am I close????? 1899 5.jpg 1899 5 rev.jpg

CG - should get a solid VF Apparent, the Lyons-Treat sigs are quite rare (usually just second to Napier-Thompson on most issues), I collect them in silver certs (just got a VF 25 Indian like yours, looking for the $2 porthole, have a real nice $1 Eagle).

Today's new pickup might be my last note for quite a while due to travel, so let's post a nice one. This gorgeous 10 pound Egypt is a large note full of great color and design. It's not real easy to get a nice one and even harder to get one without writing on them (they just LOVE to scribble on notes in Egypt). Quality design and colors from the nice folks at Bradbury Wilkinson...

MEC2: I've got a pretty cool eagle. PMG 20. Don't recall the Fr. Catalog number. Killer attribute is the serial: Y44199144Y. An alphanumeric radar......

After 2 days spent at the PAN show this weekend in Monroeville, I've got some new notes to post!

    PAN1928 $10.jpg
I met some great paper money dealers, and one of them sold this to me, a 1928 $10 FRN with that old 90's Jeep Cherokee green seal. My first pick up of the weekend and one of my favorites.

This note was in the last group of notes purchased at PAN. Not a series I had plans of collecting, but it's a slider and the price was right.
