U.S. Philippines "Victory" notes from 1944. One and Two Peso notes. The back of the Two is marked (overprinted?) "Central Bank of the Philippines", but I'm not sure what that distinction actually means. Rob
And MEC2's previous Hungarian "Forint" notes inspired me to purchase this when I saw it. Note the raw edge on the bottom, so I assume it was bottom of the sheet and they just didn't bother to clean up the edge? These notes are basically tissue paper, so I cannot image how they would have held up in circulation. Probably a good thing they were never issued! Rob
A fan of the Victory series notes, still trying to hone in on a quality 100 and 500 note... Alas, you got robbed yesterday of a new pickup, until my time machine arrives from Amazon we will just have to move forward. Today's new pickup is another addition to my Scotland collection, a pre-WWII note from UBSL...
Well look at this big old fancyass obsolete. Today's new pickup is this Municipality Number One note from the prolific state of Louisiana. You get a big note, some boobs, lots of engraving, and a color printed back... to which I say YES.
Heritage Auctions, Long Beach show this weekend 1922 $20 Gold with nice centering and color. I also noticed that many super high grade notes (66 - 68) of standard issue notes were selling for quite a bit. Like the 1934 SC's and the 1953 LT's.
I love those reverses on large size U.S. gold certificates. The color just POPS. I walked into my local B&M shop to kill some time before going back to the office to work on a ridiculously boring motion for a client, and look what I found! The Yugoslavia note is not super special, but I like stark, sad-looking communist notes so I grabbed it for a quarter. The Algeria note blew me away. It has a small tape-corrected tear in the lower right on the front (grr!) and a deep fold in the middle but the rest is pristine. The colors on the back are amazing. My scanner is lame (the discoloration is the scanner, not the note). The grapes are pretty awesome looking in real life.
Tonight's new pickup is not the first type of this note, but it is perfection, upgrading my 10 Korun Czech note from a high VF to this near perfect specimen. Love the Alphonse Mucha design, I am hard at work to collect them all... this is one of the notes you put in your album backwards, to look at the reverse... it's gorgeous.
Well, yesterday got away from me, so this note will have to cover two days. At least it has a front and a back, so maybe that counts for two? Anyways, this is a nice $100 from the ever prolific Canal Bank, a higher denom that doesn't disappoint with the fancy reverse. Always a sucker for a two sided obsolete...
While visiting Canada recently I did encounter a Paper Money Portal at the Airport..she was very helpful in these "spankin new notes" although new issues, I thought they were pretty cool... These are consecutive ... I like the Ocean and the Turtles/Fish did it for me..lol
Well crap, I opened this thread and clicked a like on a note, then realized it was showing me page freaking 1! I hate how this new software evaluates where to take you in a thread with no new posts... Oh well, back to my new gets. You got jobbed again yesterday. Sorry. Today's new pickup is a rescue note, saw this 1770 Maryland $4 and it had to go home with me, like that sad eyed dog at the shelter. I am a sucker for oddball denominations, and $4 is about as weird as they get.
Today's new get is a Cochituate Bank $5, I like this note, with the big paddlewheel steamer and the large ornate 5. This note comes with various overprint varieties and I am trying to collect as many as a I can, this is a blue with serif variety...
Dang Rickie, I've been looking for that particular note/signature combination for a month now! It's a brand new release, and I suspect it takes a bit for the usual dealers to get them. If you decide you only need 2 consecutive, let me know
DaveM: No problem..my cost was $5 each note so send me a PM with your address and I will send the 2223 Note to you at my cost. RickieB
Today's new get continues a recurring theme - more and more obsoletes. I really jumped into them, so I hope you enjoy, because I collect pathologically... This gorgeous note has lots of engraving and a snappy red overprint - overprints really get my attention. The great work of ABNCo is apparent here...
