My next get is another 1934 Series star. This one hails from the Dallas district and although its not a light green seal i am very pleased with it. Wait....i didn't sound like Mec there on that description did i? I had a choice between this one and a '34 $20 philly star for the same price ($125) i picked this beauty because it was in a little better condition not to mention the fact that i didn't want to walk the whole bourse floor again after 4 hours of viewing almost all and every '28-'34 small size frn stars. When i say all i mean collectively not many to pick from. After leaving the Baltimore Expo show i can attest these older stars are getting harder and harder to find. Saw a decent amount of lgs but none of them stars.
Well I can't have anyone here hogging up my star collecting limelight *cough* Bonni *cough* so I better post a new pickup star toot-sweet. So here it is... while I would gladly do a direct trade for Bonni's nice Dallas star, I have a feeling that would be a rejected offer, so I will have to be happy knowing I got this at just over face... woohoo!
Hi everyone! I'm not a paper collector, although I seem to accumulate my share. I say I'm not a collector because my focus is on coins and I know very little about notes. I'm always afraid I'm going to buy fakes and not know it. I'm packing up for a move and came across some current notes I picked up on eBay a few years back...completely forgot about them. Like I say...they're 2000/2003/2004A notes...nothing old. The reason I bought them was 1) it was a Friday night and I had been drinking Jack&Cokes, 2) they seemed interesting, and 3) I got them for just $20 over face...free S&H. They are uncut four (4) note sheets in nice folders ($1, $2, $5, $10, $20)...$154 total. I got them for $174.50. When I got them, I had another surprise...the $10 and $20 sheets were fairly low numbered star notes! Like I said...I don't know much about paper notes, but always heard that star notes were keepers. What do you guys think?
I will gladly do a direct trade for your '34 Boston* $20 for my '34 Dallas $10* that sounds like a gread idea and even swap! For $20 over face i'd say you made out better then Mec's just over face value on that $20 '34 Boston star note. That 2003 $10 star is from a run of only 418k and the $20 is 384k which makes them much more scarce even more so in an uncut sheet. Nice notes!
You only paid $1 each over face for stars. They're unblemished and look PPQ for paper quality. Even though a new series, I think you did just fine.
Thanks guys... I wasn't sure, but figured there was limited downside when I bought them. Some woman named "Ester" bought them in 2005 for someone named "Tom"...nephew, grandson? I bought them from that guy in 2009. I have no idea what they cost originally. The outfit selling these was a group called "World Reserve Monetary Exchange"...sounded "fly-by-nightish", but the notes checked out. The notes are pristine and in very nice portfolios. Here's the "certificate" that comes with each set...
In the reality of how each of us speak and say things. we said the same thing. I think Yak knows they are keepers and he got a good deal, by either of our comments.
I think I got away lucky! http://snake-river.bbb.org/article/...ge-ads-offering-free-2-bills-misleading-24014 http://www.katc.com/news/bbb-warns-against-uncut-money-sheets/#_ http://coins.snapmagic.com/informative/world-reserve-monetary-exchange/ Especially when you consider... http://currency.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=310061&lotIdNo=12043#Photo
1917 $2 in XF. I believe this to be a paper jam error (see top border distortion). I will be sending it in to PMG shortly.
How do they determine when this happened? 90 years ago, 45 years ago or 20 years ago? I would imagine, if other than during production, it would be damage and lower the value. If it happened during production, it could be an error (?) and increase value. I know there are guides and things on the press, and even during stacking, but bank counting machinery and manual handling could also cause this.
Work has kept me from posting new pickups, and eBay's constant devolution of their site and search engine has kept me from buying any. I've honestly considered stopping active collecting because eBay has made shopping more trouble than it's worth. Still might. On that note, let's post a new pickup, from a new country - the Dutch Indies. Saw this note and great front but man I love that back - solider, plane, ship... great note in great condition. Yea me!
There are ways to tell. Check out the border design on the top edge of the face, to the left of the supposed "paper jam". The paper is perfect there, but the border design is distorted. Also take a look to the right of the top serial number. The paper below the affected area and to the right is not affected, but the lines in the design are distorted. This was enough evidence for me to scoop it up. When I received it, I also found a cutting error along the top right edge, where there's thin hanging piece that was not fully severed. It's hard to see it clearly in the photo. Although this last effect could be replicated, it's very hard to do intentionally, even with a sharp paper cutter.
Wow I can access this thread again, was getting a database error last few days, so that explains my absence... Might as well post a nice note to make up for it. This note has several of the things I like... Dallas? Yes. And lime? You know it. PPQ holder to boot, and a crazy good price considering a graded 63PPQ, and I had to get it despite already having a nice one. Currency collecting is a terminal affliction I am afraid...
You know it's funny, a few weeks ago I think I mentioned that I very rarely get obsolete notes... and suddenly, I have acquired a few. This new arrival is courtesy a rare Heritage win, picked it up from them and I sure do like it. Love the colors and I am an absolute sucker for a great big eagle design on a note. I think this is just a fantastic design - even if the bank itself was a complete fraud!!
Two notes I can cross off the bucket list: Danish West Indies 5 francs Unissued South Vietnam 5000 dong
