Very nice Additions eveyone! MEC: consider me signed up for your generous giveaway..... LOL

I certainly wont be giveing away or selling either of these any time soon. You may remember a $1 early Silver Cetificate I posted with a 66 serial number (I collect this number) but I just recently decided to add this wonderful $5 Silver Certificate to my collection as well! I posted both in all their glory... I really like these if you cant tell...

50 US Dollars, I got them after more than 2 years of online surveys :D
99.99% sure they are common notes in bad shape, will probably exchange them for local currency after some time.

I do like the purple color on the 5$ note.

Well I finally got some more notes in... and when I say another country heard from I literally mean it. Somehow I saw some Egyptian notes and man they have King Tut and some nicely rendered old school reverses, so here we go. Luckily, far fewer real designs than Greece so it should be easier to collect the designs I like, as once you hit 1960 there are only a couple notes I really like, mainly with Pharonic scenes on the reverse. The first one is a 1/4 Egyptian Pound, or 25 Piastres, and it has King Tut... buried with a donkey... he's my favorite honkey...

    Well I ordered this note:

    But instead I got this:

I didn't even gain anything despite the higher denomination. The $1 SC is XF+ to AU condition, and the $5 is in Fine condition. I'm trying to get the seller to send me the correct note.

Funkee - that happened to me once with a CSA $1 and it turned out the seller mailed out the wrong note to myself and another auction winner. We did a round robin mail forward and everyone got the note they needed...

More Egypt! Here is a 1/2 pound, or 50 Piastres note. These notes are all from the 1950's...

Cool! What's the watermark - a political figure or Tut?

My first large size star note. Please excuse the photos. I haven't been able to get anywhere with decent lighting.

From what I can tell this note should grade a 50. I can't believe I would ever say that the old CGA under-graded something. But here I am saying just that.

I paid way under market for an XF 40 Fr. 60 star, let alone an AU 50. I'm going to really examine it closely before I cut it out to have it regraded.

I'd definitely cut it out and send it to PMG or PCGS! :thumb:

Might be worth getting regraded just to get rid of the old CGA holder, a new CGA holder has more resale cachet (as you know).

Mackwork - it's the head of the Sphinx in the watermark.

And speaking of, here's the last of the three Egypt's I got in (more on the way I hope!), a pristine and perfect 1 Egyptian Pound note, alot of color and sharp detail on this one... you can even make out the Sphinx head as the watermark if you look closely enough...

Happy New Year, and let's start it off right... postman made sure I had something to post for the new year, so let's kick off 2013 with this nice Obsolete. This issue is listed as SENC with some contemporary counterfeits, I've seen the counterfeits and this one looks like the slabbed one HA sold, so I'm hopeful it's the real McCoy. I've always liked the design on this note with the red overprint on the ends, finally got one in my wheelhouse. Even if it turns out to be a contemporary counterfeit, it still pleases me...

Happy New Year to all. This year is starting off miserable, as I have come down with a cold. I went many years without getting sick, and I forgot just how crappy it gets. Thankfully it's not a flu (I hope).

Earlier I posted a $5 North Africa note I received instead of the correct one. Well the correct one finally arrived. It would probably grade high XF (45) to low AU (50).

Here's an exceptionally rare National that I have been looking for. While the condition is not high, I'm glad to say it has no tears or pinholes, just good old honest wear. I'm proud to add another mid-Atlantic to my collection.

Well, 2013 started off with a whimper, when my sniping program failed to fire at a note that ended up selling at 80% of my max bid. Sigh. It was the sister to this new pickup - this note is 1000 Drachma but really it's an overprinted 100 Drachma - the 100 Drachma was never circulated, instead it's value was changed to 1000 as you see here. This note has a couple of Downsy looking Greek girls on the front and I believe the Amphipolis Lion on the reverse - the cool stuff on Greek notes is what has always attracted me to them, and this is no different. So, I still await getting the 100 Drachma version of this note without the overprint...

Acquisitions have slowed, some aggravating underbid results, others just not what I am in the market for... but this note just came in, and as you can tell by the lime green seal, I am definitely IN the market for it. It's a nice upgrade from a VF note of the same kind, nice in hand to be sure. Got a few notes hopefully coming in this week so I can keep feeding this thread, including a really nice pickup I am excited about that helps me get close to completing a collection...

    This bad boy finally arrived.

1872 $50 South Carolina Revenue Bond Scrip. This is my first obsolete note, and what a beauty it is.

It has one light fold (no crease) in the corner. Lyn Knight called it AU.

The margins on this note are absolutely horrific. Did they not know how to cut in straight lines in the 1870s? Whoever cut this note used scissors and had to be heavily intoxicated.

It really reminds me of the 1878 $50 legal tender series with the fancy L's. Of course this South Carolina note is far more affordable.
