I hate that "it's not fair argument" life isn't fair plus it's not like you won't get the others stuff too. That logic irks me the same as the participation trophy nonsense.

Anyway back on subject. Yes, companies do this to get a premium for them from granny's and grandpa's etc who don't know coins from hard candies and want gifts for the grandkids etc. To us, we don't pay premiums for them though some of us will pay a premium for an excellent piece of art like hand laid glass enameled ones or ones of high quality etc. The generic ones that look like stickers that were slightly mis aligned when stuck or look like they were printed from a dot matrix printer are crap which is 95% of painted ase's.

Fyi, in most cases you can remove the color or sticker by soaking in acetone overnight. Or just sell them on ebay and buy clean ones if it bugs you. But bullion is bullion so who cares if it's painted. You may just get more $ for them relative to a bu white one from eBay bidiots

Children like pretty things. A RW&B SE will get the vote 10 times out of ten.

Not promoting them, but govmint.com has ASE's for $17.95 (haven't looked lately), you can use a credit card with no increase, and free shipping over $150

Painted ASEs are another in the long line of gimmicks to separate people from more of their money. Apparently it works often enough.

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

I have a couple of these from a mixture that I got. They remind of the "enhanced" ones that were in a Mint set a few years ago (vice versa, actually, as I had these before the enhanced came out).

The enhanced ASE did harken back the painted variety, didn't it? My thoughts when first I viewed them (2013) a few years ago.

Will admit to buying a colored 100 yen coin at a flea market years ago. Dropped the case once (as you can see) Scan_20160401.png
