In my local coin shop there was a new bargain bin that had just arrived. After searching through it for a few minutes I found a 1961 Franklin graded by GEC as MS68. I knew already GEC is far from the best service. It's a good coin and couldn't resist as it was 7 dollars, roughly 50 cents over spot. This is far from an MS68 coin, it isn't even close. Ok pickup, but way overgraded.
Good deal with or without the slab. What grade would you give it in hand? Looks like it may be cleaned (tough to tell from pics), but still a nice deal that close to melt regardless.
This coin seems to have been lightly cleaned in the past, mostly right around Franklin. Before anyone says anything I know that lightly cleaned is still clean! With the cleaning, UNC Details. Without the cleaning, I'd say MS64.
Now for yourchallenge... You can open the GEC slab (they are not sealed) ether by finding the pin hole and using a pin (leaves marks), or by very carefully tapping it until it opens. Remove the Franklin. Put a clad Kennedy in the slab, sell the Franklin at melt and the HUGE ERROR SLAB on eBay.
