Ever wish you had @Jack D. Young on speed dial? Just got my most recent submission back. I had a counterfeit 1804 spiked chin half cent. Ah well…. Lesson learned!
Not really. That was an odd purchase for me. Most all my better coins are already slabbed. I had been working my way down to some of the lower value coins. This was one of them. It was an impulse purchase for me…. As many are…. But it was outside my wheelhouse. I don’t have any worries about the rest of my collection really.
yeah so sorry randy no can like that.. now let's hunt down that hornswaggler and string him up proper
@Randy Abercrombie …but you’re still in the game, Randy. Live and learn from mistakes but never stop playing the game. For that I gave you a like. We’ve all been hornswoggled in some way, shape or form…it’s how we learned to be better…imo…Spark
Sorry, but @Spark1951 is correct. If this is for sure your first, you are doing okay. But I have to tell you these people really irk me big time.
@Randy Abercrombie the coin came back raw? I know ICG will slab counterfeits in a special holder ('educational slab') but it seems like you might need to request that on the form? https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...onal-slab-service-for-altered-fake-coins.html
Says questionable, did you have any doubts before sending in and can you see what is questionable now?
Ouch. Sorry. The obverse, though it displays a bit of weakness, probably would have fooled me. It’s even got those telltale striations at 4:00 on the obverse, which I’ve heard were possibly caused by a threaded screw marking the die. It’s seemingly a quirk of all the Spiked Chin coins. It always kind of looked like a fingerprint to me. That reverse does look more like a cast coin. The blobby leaves and letters stand out. Just for the heck of it, here’s mine, which I bought from David Lawrence.
Edge is not current Chinese; reverse appears messed with. Questionable, unverifiable, etc are terms used by the TPGs to state they really can't tell... @Randy Abercrombie is the weight within tolerance?
I am remiss... I been a lifelong coin collector and do not have a scale. I will rectify that and report back.
