I think you misunderstood. The boxes he was referring to were the Intercept Shield boxes - they will stop toning. The cardboard boxes the mint uses will actually cause toning to happen even faster.

Because they are made of cardboard and carboard has lots of sulphur in it - and sulphur is very harmful to coins. It also has glue and various other chemicals that all put off gases that are harmful to coins.

    Is there any recourse?

Couple comments about incompetency of the mint. Orders for UHR Double Eagle

First in first out? NOT. I received my order 30846156 over a week ago and just yesterday was told my order 30838077 was cancelled because the credit card was declined. I used different cards so as to get more than one. It just so happened that I had to replace my credit card that I used on the earlier order. The first one I called to give my new card to was US Mint. When they processed the order it was for the old card. The person never updated the information. I received the email notice yesterday to call in. It did not say my order was cancelled. Called first thing this morning. They cancelled my order before the email was sent. They were happy to take a new order for the higher price.

Oh by the way, the coin that I did receive has a blemish. Not sure if it is post strike or not. Should I return it?

Well, this shows you how the mint sucks
    How big is the blemish?

It's small but visible without magnification. Maybe the size of a pin point. I have never collected before so I have no frame of reference.

Boss: Doug, don't you think if you kept the box's in an airtight environment with rechargeable dessicants the box's and wrapper would produce cool color like Leeg's cents (for those who don't know what I am saying look at "Let's post a complete set of Lincoln's"). I use the Reynolds ziplock bags and Ziplock brand that allow you suck the air out with a air-sucker machine (ASM!!). Like in Colorado or Az where people have stored coins in hot dry air- these environments have produced nice coins.
