Orbiana Denarius, 225-227 AD, 2.4g, 17.0mm OBV: SALL BARBIA ORBIANA AVG, Diademed & draped bust right REV: CONCORDIA AVGG, Concordia seated left on throne, holding patera & double cornucopiae. REF: RIC 319 var, RSC 1. This coin was very harshly cleaned and I sometimes wonder if it looks tooled to me. Kind of depressing when Orbiana coins are fairly uncommon.
I thought the eye looked out of place and the scraping marks around the bust portrait. But definitely harsh cleaning. I think that if cleaned properly it would have been a lot better, perhaps.
Use mine as what one should look like. Hopefully you didn't pay a lot. Orbiana (225 - 227 A.D.) AR Denarius O: SALL BARBIA ORBIANA AVG, draped bust right. R: CONCORDIA AVGG,Concordia seated left holding double cornucopia and patera. Rome 19mm 3.8g RIC IV 319, RSC III 1, BMCRE VI 287, SRCV II 8191
Wow Gil-galad, you've certainly been busy buying coins, eh? => another cool OP-example ... although you may suspect a bit of "aggressive" cleaning, the coin is still very cool (congrats) Oh, and not unlike Mat, I have an example as well ... Cheers, coin-bro
'GIL', I think it's a cool example for a relatively scarce type despite the 'issues'......and one of several ladies I'm still missing.
Yeah, I agree the coin has been re-engraved. Not to be something else but I am convinced it is a real Orbiana coin. Just tooled and re-engraved.
Thanks for the examples to compare. Some of them are different dies but I definitely see how the other ones are and I have compared many others as well.
