This is my only complete set of US Coinage
1. 1921 Alabama Centennial Half Dollar
2. 1926 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar
3. 1936 Lynchburg, Virginia Half Dollar
4. 1936 Robinson–Arkansas Half Dollar
5. 1995 Special Olympics Silver Dollar
6. 2016 Nancy Reagan First Spouse $10 Gold Coin (grey area)

The 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin will be released into circulation and available for purchase in bags and rolls, exclusively from the United States Mint.​

As I've said elsewhere about the Golden Dollars, the only current ones I am interested in are the Native American dollars (1 design a year). Not the Innovation dollars (multiple designs per year - just more and more detritus, like the current quarters).

I've completed the Presidential Dollars to date, and will wait for the next (assuming they will eventually be minted after they eventually die) entrants into the series (Carter, Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden, Trump - assuming also that I'll outlive them all) before adding them to the album.

So, as far as this 2026 Trump Golden Dollar goes, I will probably keep one if I find it in change since it is issued for circulation (the bulk of my coin collection is from circulation). If it hadn't been issued for circulation, though, I would not bother acquiring one, just like I don't collect the Innovation dollars (too much detritus). I'm more than happy with the Presidential Dollar series, and feel that it is the appropriate venue for any coin featuring a president (dead, alive, current and/or past).

And one more thing. The dual date on all of the Semiquicentennial coins uses the tilde (~) between the dates...



I've always used the tilde to mean "approximately" or "about", so this use of it looks wrong to me. I read it as "from 1776 to about 2026". All wrong.

I like the Bicentennial coins with the dot between the dates...



...instead, and wish they had used the dot again for the semiquincentennial coins. A dash would make the most sense though... 1776-2026

 

They put his trial face on the coin. They could have put a less angry face on it.

 

I will add one thing here.. Apparently CAC has recieved rolls for grading and have found the 1st "July 4th" privy mark. I got and email from CAC about it being a "surprise" as the mint never announced it.

 

I don't collect modern issues.

 

I loved watching Donald Trump's show The Apprentice.
The image reminds me of when he would make his decision and would say "You're Fired!"


I have a few other Trump Coins\Medallions in my collection.
I don't post them for obvious reasons. I will probably add this one to my collection.

 

I fell for your trap question in post #26 above I originally answered yes - I now change my answer to NO. The list I provided are coins that were struck depicting living people at the time - The Nacy Reagan coin was issued after she passed. All the other coins were issued when the people depicted were still living. But as of today Trump is the only person still living that is depicted on a US coin.

 

Same here, I have zero interest in this coin.

 

I don't think the Trump dollar has a particularly attractive portrait and why the gold colour? is this to match the Oval Office now?
IMHO think the portrait is amateurish and would have been better as a profile although the coin is not as bad as the Winston Churchill Crown which is pretty ugly not helped by its low profile. I would go for the Trump over this as it has a nice Presidential Seal. The reverse on the Trump is the best feature from my perspective.

 

Do I need this for my type set?

 

Sans esoteric left/right politics, living people should not be on coins or paper currency. Period.

Aside from QEII and Charles where it's tradition, the only living people I can think of depicted on other nations' currency are Niyazov (Turkmenistan), Hussein (Iraq), Assad (Syria).

When you have a living person on money, that either indicates you live under a monarchy (constitutional monarchy or not, doesn't matter) or legitimately a top-shelf dictatorship.

If that symbolism is what you're ok with on the USA's money, I don't know what to tell you.

 

So they are actually making this one. I liked the precedent of keeping living people off official coinage, but as long as they are going to stretch that point the overall design is nice IMO. If I find one I'll keep it.

I really wish that they would start minting larger denomination coins like $5, $10, $20 and even $50 pieces. I like coins and I think it would be cool to actually be able to use them again. We don't even know what it's like anymore to see a worn coin in circulation.
As you say, even the $1 coins are hardly enough to buy anything.
