Opinions on this Brazilian coin

    I saw this coin for sale and I'm not great at noticing fakes but this looks off to me. Something about the portrait just doesn't look professional. What do you think? The first picture is an authentic coin and the second is the for sale coin.

    looks like the 1 in my catalog. what are your concerns ? what grade is the 1 for sale ?

    It looks fine to me. The first coin has been cleaned, as these coins usually are. Second coin is a very nice uncleaned example.

    Agreed with the above posters; this just looks like a cleaned example

    I just thought something around the face, like the eyes and the beard, didn't look right.

    This is genuine coin from my collection. I would say, that upper coin is normal too.

    I've never seen any decent fakes of this type, only the larger crown sized pieces. Would be interested in seeing one if you do come across it.

    I think it's the photography that's making it look strange around the eyes and beard -- but the coin itself looks genuine to me.
