I'm with Mark on this one , I wouldn't give that coin a 67 , it's got luster but that's it / too many hits and a week strike for $800 . I'll take my 66 any day and for less money . Here's my 66 .
Just coming across your OP, I was going to suggest you check out Heritage (if you don't already) for its good photos and previous prices info. Then mark_h posted his good detective work.
I'm not so sure what the grade of this one is your asking about but I'll tell ya this....It looks as the luster is lacking and maybe some lamo along with it, Looks AUish to me. As far as the coin the OP is asking about I'll say this. It's very rare I would purchase a 67 type 1 from an image, it leaves a LOT of door opened to be fooled buy editing as seller sometimes juices the images and the differance between a 66 and a 67 can be very hard to see via images. If ya know the seller and he/she has a good reputation, well that's a horse of a different color. It does look nice and in a pcgs holder is another plus. I like it but in todays market you can do better, at least these are my thoughts. Good luck and by the way, I love Buffalo Nickel's and I'm a huge fan of the type 1. Here's my 67. It housed in an NGC holder and yes it also CAC'ed. Best of luck to ya.....Joe Here a 1913 type NGC * Star...I like the looks of this one too. I have quite a few of these type 1's.... Here's another....PCGS.....
Thanks Dex, Yes, I have already moved on and the search continues, I never really had a good feeling about that coin, and that is why I posted it. Sort of like a sanity check . Your 67 is beautiful, BTW. Mike
Now that top one is what I'm talking about! Great detail, movement and texture. You can almost feel the wind on the plains rippling through your hair.
Good luck in your continued hunt! Considering the Buffalo series was a hit from the start and that everyone collected the first-year issues, you should have no issue finding a high grade/strong strike example that suits your liking. And hopefully at a cheaper price too!
Remember all 67s are not equal , especially in strike and eye appeal . You can afford to be picky as well struck type ones are out there if you look . For $800 you should be able to score a killer coin not just an average one .
