I saw. THE TRUE VIEW looks nothing like the other pictures you posted. The problem was not with the coin, but the photos, evidently. Nice coin.
This is why I say TPG grade pricing is mostly a farce, despite the fact that I do buy and sell graded coins. However the ones I buy have minimal or almost no premium for the TPG grade (as far as pricing from one grade to the next). I also buy (without seeing in hand) and sell online so it's nice to have that extra layer of authenticity, besides photos and dealer reputation. Again so long as the premium for it is minimal. If the price of a 67 is going to be 3x higher than a 65 I'll take the 65 all day every day. Unless of course 65 is clearly higher than 64. Then 64 all day every day. Unless 63... so on and so on. You get the point. The farce is that the number on the label is being used to multiply price when ultimately the difference between two grades really is subjective.
Here's another one that leaves me scratching my head http://www.ebay.com/itm/1880-CC-Mor...685443?hash=item4d3ced9703:g:ZN0AAOSwk1JWcd6B
Toning lines? I really don't know. Just calling it like I see it. It's a nice coin, don't get me wrong. Let's see what the marketing gods bestow on it. They're all that count, these days, anyway. OK, editing to add, I think it's a technical MS65, going away. This is the thing to think about, the dealer didn't think it would grade gem. Enter, the market. Would the market take it at MS65? There's the question. The dealer who sold it is thinking the striations or whatever they are and that cut say the market won't.
Sorry, I was just being sarcastic concerning my other thread with the 1891 with roller marks. Edit: I really do think it has a chance at 66
Yeah, I know. Look, I hope you get it. Market grading is much more fickle than technical grading, so, good luck on this girl.
Well the coin is mine. I will be sending it in to NGC. They are the only ones I'll send GSA Morgan's. I just don't want another layer of plastic over it like PCGS does.
I didn't know this coin had its own thread, here are the comments I made in the Post your Morgan Dollar thread. I love this coin. Despite the mark on the face, I still wouldn't mind this coin as a low end MS66. The luster looks like it is off the charts.
This coin is a rock star. Morganallica! It even has its own groupies chasing after it. It has been known to impregnate a few lady libertys along its journey.
The dealer that submitted this lady for me just called. She is waiting for me to come pick her up. I know what the grade is. I'll let you all give another shot as to what you think she graded.
We gave our opinions--why not just give the grade? I am not changing my mind just because it is graded now--I was either right or wrong.
