You can have all of these PCGS. I'll pass! Even on the Green Bean!

    ANA standards
MS65 - nearly as perfect as MS67 except for a few additional minute bag marks.

MS67 - virtually flawless but with very minor imperfections.

Note: The ANA book does not include a description for MS66. Maybe that is why PCGS screwed the pooch.

Theres books and then theres the real world. The question was could this grade a 66. I literally pulled the first ebay results I found to demonstrate that fact. And since youve never seen one with marks on the cheek, to enlighten you. Unortunately PCGS uses the "eye appeal" qualifier to bypass a technical grade as it sees fit, so sometimes the technical grade gets a bump.

Edit: CC Morgans get a "courtesy bump" apparently.

MS 65, high end. Too many cheek marks for 66, but 65+ seems reasonable.

I will reshoot the coin tomorrow. Here is a close up of the cheek.

What would you grade this at?

That means you definitely have a shot at 66.

    Also, that's lots of frost!

MS63, mark on cheek and striations are distracting ;)

You are over grading it. The cheek has multiple marks, and the reverse has a few marks over the eagle's head. It is clean enough to be a high end 65, but not a 66. Why do you think you got it that cheaply, if it were an obvious 66?

    Hahahah!!! ;)

It's actually MS-67 that sold on HA for $14,100.00 :woot:

Here is another from PCGS. It sold for $11,162.50

66 coins can have marks. I will say, if anything holds it back, it will be they don't like the color on the cheek.

Edit: We're off by half a point, so if it were a straw poll we'd be tied with the margin of error.

I'm not trying to say it's a 67 at all.. But there are marks on the cheek that get a 67.

    I'm just saying I think I have a good shot at a 66.

@Sean5150 I agree with you on that. The color is the reason it was not in an "Uncirculated Silver Dollar" holder.

I have NEVER seen a 67 coin that didn't look like it was transported from the press with silk gloves.

No way-- one of the cheek marks is pretty deep. Hey, you asked-- a few of us do not agree. Don't like the answer? Don't ask. I would say that was a good pickup as a high end 65 and be happy, for the price you paid.

    I didn't ask anything, I made a statement. This isn't my coin.

Edit:You should check out the post I did make, I got my grade back for that NTC coin.

I'm not trying to argue anything. I respect everyone's opinion on here. I have not told anyone they were wrong. I'm also not saying I don't like any of the answers that I have got.

This is demonstrating how difficult it truly is to grade higher MS coins via photos that are 10X the actual coin on a monitor without the ability to move the coin to imitate the way it looks in hand.

I know that if I was giving my opinion based on the images. I would be firmly in the MS-65 camp. However, I have the luxury of examining the coin through a 5x loupe while holding it in hand. :)

    +1.

Edit: You say the obverse is considerably better than the reverse, I really don't see that in the pics. But the reverse looks nice, so could easily be more to this coin than what I'm seeing in the picture.

For the most part, I thought for sure there would be some MS-64 guesses out there. So overall, I'm very happy with what you guys are saying.
