Not in the Open forum, but it would be quite simple for you to PM the qustions to the mods, the first one on-line can post it for you, and then close the thread. But Boy Howdy - you're gonna get a lot of PM's ! Then when you are ready, we just unlock the thread for you and you post the answers sent to you. That's a ton of work - for you ! I think it would be better if you just posted normally and let folks reply. Those that wish to can easily skip over member replies without reading them and go straight to your question and answer it. Others can just read it all. It's up to them. And coming up with trivia questions, it's not as easy as you think. I did it for several years in the WINS newsletter.
Doug: I like the idea of having a mod post it for me better than the alternatives, it's not how I'd like to do it ideally, but it's ok. I don't mind hundreds of PMs, that's no issue at all, but if I am going to have a mod post it, I will set up an e-mail for people to answer to. We might also want to post a templated disclaimer as the first post in the thread telling people not only where to send their answers, but to NOT send them to you! It's easier for me to have control over e-mail. The volume doesn't bother me, I love to read! (Besides there are no prizes, so the answers will not be as overwhelming in number as they would be had I decided to offer one weekly.) I have no intentions of posting all of the answers I get. I plan on posting the answers to the quiz from last week every week so people will know the answers. I also envisioned posting the names of the people who got them all correct rather than posting people's answers. (I don't think it's going to be a big list.) I understand how ambitious this is, but truthfully, Doug, I am a writer. Not by trade (although I have been paid and published), but it's just what I am. I thought about this idea as I was recovering and realized that if I wanted to achieve this it would be a LOT of work, but even more enjoyment for me! I also realized that if I proceeded, I should be able to write however many I plan to do each week over the course of my workweek. I originally wanted to do 5, but after careful thought I think I will choose to do 3 questions. I figure that I can easily do this if I am persistent. I then determined that if I was serious, I needed at least 1 or 2 weeks questions in reserve before I start, giving me a cushion to keep writing them. Yesterday I wrote 10 really good questions and 2 pretty good ones. My plan is to write 3 more today and start this tomorrow. If anyone has a question that they'd like to contribute I would be happy to take suggestions, I'm not too proud to ask for help. I think that if I have 15 questions by the end of today, that's 5 weeks worth in reserve. that's plenty to make it work. Or at least get it started. What I do need is to either schedule with you when I could send them to you (maybe on Saturday night after I get home from work) and you could post them Sunday as early as possible. I don't intend to write it "on the fly" so I don't mind sending it to you the night before and you can publish it and lock the thread afterwards. That is, if you would for me. Since I don't know any of the other mods as well as I know you, would you do this for me? Pretty please??? LOL
bad news, tho, nss. the questions will not be ones like: How many 1916-D Mercury Dimes were minted? That's a Red book question. Most of what I have so far is a bit more involved to research and answer than that.
It needs a name tho. Something unique. Clinker calls his columns Trivia Time, so that's out. I don't want to name it CT Trivia, either. I think that a stand-alone name is best. Any suggestions?
Don't make them too hard. I am not very coin or currency smart. Also, keep them easy to locate. I do not have the time to get to a computer everyday.
I like the Polls. Not corny at all. How about some Wheat Ears? Where did Liberty Walk?, Trivia is good if an answer follows or can be clicked on easily enough. My favorite threads have been Polls?
Mike I like the idea and will certainly take a look at them. I think you'll get a better response with an open thread though. Maybe people can ask for hints or just add information without giving the actual answers.
Breakdown, you're missing what I'm trying to do. I don't want response, I am not trying to start a discussion thread. I am merely writing a trivia article once a week. A sort of game, if you will. I don't want the thread to be posted to at all. I will have an e-mail address that if people would like to play like a game and guess, then they can. otherwise the next week's column will feature the previous week's answers.
