This has shown up several times on my e-bay e-mail notifications... anyone know what it is? Here's what the seller says: "A continually misidentified coin. We've been through fifteen different coin collectors, museums, universities, companies, and still haven't had anyone say the same thing as the last person. We've been told it's worth a few dollars to it's worth millions. We've had ranges from it's a mid 1900s coin all the way to it's from 1900BC Indus Valley Civilization. Which, that guess was the most informative and included the most information on the coin. If you'd like to give this coin a shot to try and continue figuring out what it is, be our guest. If you want to message us and tell us "you know exactly what this coin is." No thank you. We've already heard that fourteen of fifteen times so we not interested in hearing that."
Does anyone remember the hoopla created by an ebayer about the Disney "Black Diamond" issue of a VHS that went for $25,000.00? Kinda sounds the same here, self promotion.
No, i can not give you a concrete attribution. Probably could find out, if i knew size and weight, but no time now. But for those interested, if turned correctly, the top line of the right side reads "al-malik" in arab script. Because of style, the Ayyubids would be my first category to look at.
I looks a lot like an Indian Fanam to me but there were 100s of varities (one for each village that made them and most did) as far as i know they come in copper silver and gold.. Might be a good place to look... here are a few silver ones for an example...
Not looking for it, i saw this again, passing by just now on e-bay. The e-bay photo with the coin on the hand gives a fair indication of the size. With that it may be identified as a contemporary imitation of a 1/2 dirham of Ayyubid ruler al-Kamil Muhammad 615-35AH. (The real thing should be silver) Similar to this one on Zeno: https://www.zeno.ru/showphoto.php?photo=131779
