Hi, sorry for the delayed reply. I primarily collect US coins in the $50 - $300 range, maybe more if I find something I really want. I'm currently trying to buy one of each type of US coin and at least one coin from each of the US Mints. If I pay over $150 for a single coin, I prefer to only go for something that is graded or something that comes directly from the Mint. I looked at a lot of online dealers and the prices are so far out of my price range that I kinda just laughed when I saw them. I'd like to think I have a smart collection, but I'm by no means buying with the big dogs.
OK, you want to complete a Type Set. Unfortunately with your price range that is going to leave out most of the gold coins because the melt value of the gold alone exceeds your price limits. So that makes it a copper and silver Type Set. That helps some. One thing to remember though, with those price limits some if not many of your coins will not match in approximate grade range. Some may well be graded as low as VG or VF while others could be mid range MS and still be within your price limits. That said, you can try these. http://www.ldrcoins.com/Webstore.php http://www.civitasgalleries.com/ http://coins.ha.com/c/index.zx http://www.vcoins.com/us/ http://www.teletrade.com/coins/lognow.asp?loginDescr=Full+Site&loc=%2Fcoins%2Flogout.asp%3F One thing, don't expect any of them to automatically have exactly what you are looking for the first time you look. Often you need to exercise patience or even set up a want lists with a couple of dealers so they can look for what you want. Heritage and Teletrade alone could probably satisfy your needs, but with them you have to just wait until what you want comes along.
Hello ska69, GDJMSP has given you some good websites. I might add www.davidlawrence.com & I will post some more here as they come to mind. I trust you are planning to attend the ANA's World's Fair of Money in Philadelphia this August 4 - 6. I will be there. Here is a link descrribing the coin show: http://www.worldsfairofmoney.com/
The art of the deal... Negotiating is part of life. When I negotiate a good deal. I get excited. Like a natural high or charge!!!
How about dealers who are good with trade-in value under $1,000 like Silvertowne? Not trying to hijack the thread, just to keep more good resources in one place...just let me know if this is better handled separately, and I will do so!
