Still no correct answers...... I'm working up another contest... but I don't want to run more than one at a time, so waiting for somebody to win this one first. Reading the book would find the answer, or a lucky guess might hit it. Tom
Still no correct guesses... by the way, I researched the geography for the book very precisely. Every street and house actually exists, and I personally did quite a lot of exploring in the underground areas of the Quincy Mine (where much of the action in the story takes place over a period of a few days) while I was a Geology student at Michigan Technological University. Even the time of moonrise and the phase of the moon is correct for the dates according to predictions from the US Naval Observatory database.
Wed, Jan 18, 2017 was actually guessed earlier in the thread... that's the date when things get started... but not the date when the Republic of Superior is officially declared. There has been at least one very close guess... but no direct hits. When submitting a guess be sure to include month, day, year, and day-of-the-week. Good luck! Tom
Well I got the book finally. I think it's January 21, 2017 which would be a Saturday. But I didn't read it all yet so I'll submit a few other guesses: Jan 19 2017 thursday Jan 20 2017 friday
Signifigant days in Mich. History 4/9 & 5/12 & 9/3 - Treaty of Paris signing? Sunday 4/9/2017 Friday 5/12/2017 Sunday 9/3/2017 Wild guesses Saturday 1/21/2017 Wednesday 2/01/2017 BTW - read the first three chapters posted on your web site and didn't find the answer, wish I had the book to look it up
And just to be sure, I'll add jan 22, 2017 sunday, Jan 23, 2017 Monday.. I am pretty sure it's the Jan 21, but I'd like to read the book now without ruining too much .
Ding - Ding - Ding - Ding - Ding WE HAVE A WINNER! TSK has answered with the correct answer: Friday, Jan 20, 2017. The whole book takes place over a period of just over forty eight hours. Private-message me with your mailing address and I ship off your coin! That's Arne on the obverse! Enjoy the rest of the story! Tom
Just a (late) update... I got the coin on Saturday. It's really nice. I'm quite impressed by the detail. Thanks again Tom! BTW, I'm about 1/4 way through the book now.
Tsk: Thanks for letting us know the coin's arrived. Glad you like it! I hope you're enjoying the book. By the way, if you noticed... in the future history story line the US dissolves into the NAFU (North American Federal Union) in 2009. On CNN today I was shocked to hear about moves to politically unify the US with Canada and Mexico... and they're calling it the North American Union. Made the hair stand up on my head! Have fun!
