My apologies! I found this quarter in my register at work and immediately thought it was a fake by the way it looked. I cannot weigh it atm, I have yet to find someone that can do it for me. Mind you, I am reading all of these replies but I don't know what else to think of it or what to do. I am still unsure what to do/say from here. Where I live, there aren't any major coin businesses or "professionals" that I trust to get an evaluation, yada yada... in case it is worth more than face value. Here is the rim, and it is consistent all around. No dents, no chips, shape and color are consistent.
Have you or anyone you know sent coins to Ken Potter? I am on his website and I will most likely send this coin for evaluation, however, I'm having trouble navigating. Any other suggestions for reputable evaluators?
I would call the number or send him an email first. I'm sure whomever answers will give you exact details on how to submit. From what I can see on the webstie here is the contact information Ken Potter Cell Phone: 313-268-3280 (Best) Office Phone: 313-255-8907 KPotter256@aol.com Other reputable people who might evaluate this kind of thing (correct me if I'm wrong gang) are James Wiles at http://varietyvista.com/ John A. Wexler at http://www.doubleddie.com/ I've emailed both of these guys and they are quite prompt at replying. You could send an email to all three here and see which one wants to evaluate. Regarding reputability, you don't make a name for yourself, like these three gentlemen have in this business, by swindling people, each one of them are well known and well respected.
Start your own unique thread with pictures... Most likely PMD Post Mint Damage where somebody removed one side.
Wow.. You need to start a new separate thread. And you need to show pictures. One-sided usually means damaged by alteration.
As with almost everyone that posted a response it's PMD. Someone got bored and did it or someone did it in the hope of passing it off as an error coin. I have a large cent like that.
You forgot to thank him for sharing. You don't want to be rude, do you? That's OK, I'll do it, thank you for sharing! And keep up the good work, slugger, you're doing perfect!
You can't see the obvious grind marks trailing on the blank part of the coin? The mint would not show such damage if a mint error. This is a dremel and a very bored person.
