    WORLD'S FIRST $100 Silver Banknote

A Silver Banknote for a Diamond Anniversary

    Fellow StreetAuthority Member,

    It's all about the Benjamins.

That slang for a $100 bill is easy to understand. Benjamin Franklin is pictured on every U.S. $100 bill, right? Yes, that's true-but it wasn't always so.

In 1860, a $100 bill had a bald eagle on it. Lincoln even appeared on the $100 in 1878 (although Abe's portrait eventually found its permanent home on the $5 bill.)

But in 1914, the U.S. Treasury printed the very first $100 bills to feature the portrait of our beloved Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin. Since then, every $100 bill issued has featured Franklin's image. This is no small honor. For the last 45 years, the $100 bill is the largest denomination U.S. currency issued by the government.

Hey, it "Has a Surface Area Exceeding 15 Square Inches"! That's more than 2.5 times the surface area of an American Silver Eagle! In fact, it's better than that -- they're shortchanging themselves by forgetting the area of the reverse, so they actually exceed 30 Square Inches, or five times the area of an ASE!

I can see I've been marketing my porous, corroded coins all wrong. I should be listing them as "Enhanced Surface Area" coins! You're getting more for your money!

    Well, it *is* individually struck.

As opposed to those other coins that are stamped out of sheets of metal 300 at a time, I suppose?

And there is that surface area to consider.

It commemorates a $100 bill - maybe you can fold it?

I was thinking that there were "$100" silver bars appearing on eBay a while back that were actually either 4 or 5 ozt (don't remember for sure) of .999 silver.
