Wonderfull coin, Cathago! Thanks Bing, I remember watching Hannibal (Victor Mature) epic, one of the ancient worlds greatest generals....too bad that he eventually lost vs overwhelming odds. Carthage produced some beautifull coins.
I like the fractionals... folks don't chase them as much, and they seem harder to find... @panzerman and @Carthago your coins are incredible... Well struck, clear, crisp design, well centered, and just great!
Gorgeous posts guys!!! I'd LOVE to own one and may do so in the future, but I suspect I will have to 'settle' for a high-grade silver variety. But I do relish that yellow metal LOL
AJ, what meaning do you attach to the three dots right of your horse? All, which of these should be called electrum rather than gold? I know I come off as the dog in the manger but, pretty as they are, I'd rather have 20-50 coppers of the same design (on one and several other cities) saving my gold budget for issues only available in gold. Of course most will want to seek out nicer specimens than mine but I'll show a flat struck AE with the three dot obverse and O reverse marks. Are there three dots on the reverse ground lines of the first two coins shown?
I've assumed they were a mark of value but I haven't read any thorough research on it at this point. Mine is gold, as is panzerman's and it would appear that Carthago's is electrum based on its style.
