During my first visit I marched right past the Rossetta Stone, ignored the Parthenon frieze, and made a bee line for the coin room, fully expecting to spend the entire day there. Imagine my surprise when there were only a few displays of ancient Greek and Roman coins, totaling a few score coins. The only exhibit that made a lasting impression was the “world’s oldest coin” exhibit, highlighted by a striated electrum from ca. 600 BC. I set out to add one to my collection. Never happened.
