You're right, Gary, looking for the bargains is part of the fun. As much as I enjoy finishing a set, it is also important to have something else that I am working toward. With me though I tend to just get interested in more and more things, so there's no danger that I'll ever run out of things to chase after.
No from looking at the bids (including the automatic bids) the winning bidders max was $15 and was placed a fraction of a second ahead of Hiddendragon's. 2***g had the high bid of $.99 and he had a max bid in of $3.30 Both Hiddendragon and e***g placed a $15 bid at 8:56:02 but e***g was just a fraction of a second ahead of Hiddendragon. Ebay applied e***g's bid which caused 2***g's bid to go to it's max of $3.30 and e***g became high bidder at one increment higher $3.65 Then hiddendragons bid was applied causing e***g's bid to go to its max of $15. If his max bid had been higher he would have won it at just over $15. Either one increment or less if he had bid say $15.10 But since both had the exact same bid e***g won it because his bid was first.
So if the OP was willing to spend say, $30 on this coin and put that as his max, he would have won at just a little over $15.
And if I'd had more time to think about it maybe I would have bid $30, but I opened the listing with 45 seconds left and I was too afraid there was something wrong with the coin I wasn't seeing because I was too rushed. When you don't have time to do your research, you don't want to put too much money on the line.
Eh, HD tried to snipe but was outsniped. It happens to me a TON, but other times you are pleasantly surprised by a cheap auction. I just won a dozen Kushan coins I had a bid in for $145 for about $50 last weekend. Never second guess yourself, that is the siren song of auctions, it will only lead to destruction. Keep plugging away HD. You will win some. Btw grats on your upcoming marriage. Becoming an old man like the rest of us.
HD is getting married? Oh well, your days of frivolously buying coins is going to come to an end. Or is it buying frivolous coins? You'll find out soon enough. Anyway, congratulations!
Thank you both. And yes, it's not a coincidence that I am trying to get a lot of coins before my nuptuals. I know when I have a second person involved in the household budgeting I might not be able to justify spending so much on my hobby, and as soon as kids come along, forget it.
