mrbrklyn, bent u nederlander? Ik niet, maar bijna wel ;-) geen nederlandse munt? dat is jammer! Btw, could you please tell us your impression of the show today? Any chance people buying and selling? I am planning to cash in my 25th anniversary sets. But I am not sure about getting it sold. But I am sure gonna get proof sets from different countries around the world. That's my new addiction! Fyi, I will be there on Friday. I was planning to go tomorrow - but decided to attend it for a day only. Bedankt!
I'm so tired i can't do it now. But I'll tell you and the floor is enormous. I determined that I would look over the entire floor, ever dealer, before deciding if i wanted anything. I started at 10AM and at about 2:00PM I realize that I hadn't even seen more than 2/3 of the floor and I was running out of time. Dealers are telling me all kinds of stories about how they did. many did well, and others were very unhappy. I saw Ardatirion. I was very excited about that, because everyone else pretended not to know me. He wanted to sell me a $8 shekel which i held in my hand. That was awesome. I told him I'll flip it and heads i keep it tails he keeps it. He turned that down so i gave it very serious thought and said I'd think about it because I wasn't carrying 8K dollars. Wheeling an dealing was going on everywhere, especial toward the end of the day. I saw a gorgeous brunette with long wavy hair spending hours going through the cheap bins of the foreign coin dealer. I saw so many Morgan dollars I thought I be sun struck. Among all the tables it was interesting that I stopped to look at a fantastic 1858 Flying Eagle that caught my eyes. I talking it over for about 20 minutes and then asked of a card and realized it was Rick Snows table That was kind of surprising to me because i stopped at very few tables to talk. Eugene Bruder and Gene Bruder had some decent stuff, but I didn't buy from him. There was a young fellow with some promise as a dealer, IMO, named Sanjay Gandhi, www.cranko.net. I met and spoke with David Kahn, who I like, and I think I stopped accidentally at Clines table because the SLQs caught my eye, again, no knowing which table it was until I left. I talked with Heritage people for about 25 minutes, saw all the Japanese Perfectate coins at Panda America, and the booth babe at the Perth Mint booth said she went to NYC, looked over times square and went to the wax museum....sigh... And that is about it.
Probably not - but just in case people would like to know what it is - it simply means 'that's a pity' Anyway, thank you so much for the description of the Fair! I am so excited that I am actually thinking of going tomorrow and stay there for two days. Now I just gotta find a cheap place to stay ....
One last thing, this was nothing like a GNU/Linux convention (which can be a heck of a lot more fun).
Never thought of taking the Amtrak down to Philly before. Whats wrong with Philadphia... I mean Philadelphia Are you talking about the water in the Hudson River?
I'm going to the show today with another collector from my coin club. Right now I'm getting all fired up on coffee so I can run the table. Maybe see some of you guys there. Ken, you're going right? Something about you owing me a free lunch...wait, that was a bottle of Jack Daniels...or what ever. Bruce
I'm glad that you (mrbrklyn) enjoyed. I was there as well, and you were right. It is way too big for a casual meeting. I went with my (non-collector) brother, so we also saw some sights, but I would have liked to say hello. Perhaps a different time. I also was completely overwhelmed to start. Walked in at 11:00 and didn't get a handle or buy anything until 1:15. Then I calmed down, and worked on my priorities. I picked up a 1950S dime to complete the set, and a 26S peace dollar as an upgrade. Met Carl Bombara and sold some of my red seals that I had picked up, and got a gorgeous $10 VF 1922 Gold cert (first large, first gold cert). I also picked up some Swiss 5 Francs, including a great deal on the 1952 (key of the set). I even found a (brushed) Swiss 10 Franc to add to the collection (1915), and a 50 Mil Palestine from 1939. Detracting from the show was that there weren't any graded Swiss MS 10 francs (there were a few AU examples), and there also wasn't a single 27D or 28S in MS63 (which I will have to get from Teletrade or a different show). My brother descibed me as "a kid in a candy store". He was right. I'll miss the show not being in Philly next year.
