    “Feeding the beast” is actively collecting these thing in quantity because you like them, not for educational purposes. It also involves actively buying and selling them and making a market for them. That is technically illegal, but lots of laws are broken these days.

    Here is a genuine 1872-S half dollar. I down loaded this from the PCGS Coin Facts site.

    Here is the bad one. This one is really deceptive.

    Here is the counterfeit 1796 half dollar I mentioned earlier. This piece was sold at auction in the 1960s as a genuine coin. PCGS picked it up when it was submitted for certification many years later.
