Oldest find in circulation

    Personally I would say a few indian heads wehn I was younger. Wheat cents were common in the 70's, as were occasional buffalo nickels and war nickels. I even found a 39d nickel once.

    My great uncle was in China during the WWII, and he had northern song era coins being given to him in change at times. That is about 900 years old. In China since cash coins really didn't change for centuries, if they dug up old ones they just spent them.

    Im sure you are correct. Ill have to look again. All I know was that it was the first $5 silver cert i had ever had in hand...and it ended up being mine for face value :)

    I found a 1918 wheat that is in decent shape, and a 1912 that was in awful condition, so I tried the vinegar and salt technique and I guess I left it in too long because it ate the face off :( I also found a 1941 walking liberty.
