I thought I remembered that Dennis the Menace somehow got ahold of some rare coin that Mr. Wilson had and spent it. It probably has been many years since I have watched that show though.
So, how's this for obscure? Thalia throws a coin in a jukebox--about 52 seconds into the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t01qcSJNJO8
I have that video on DVD. I paused it and and played it frame by frame. It has a Peace Dollar motiff on one side but I can't make out the reverse. It just looks like a bunch of radial lines. Maybe it's a prop coin?
I suspect it's CGI, so it might be an entirely fictional coin. It does have a peace dollar obverse, but the reverse is not discernible.
The Andy Griffith Show http://www.coinworld.com/news/us-co...n-television-like-the-andy-griffith-show.html
But as stated In this thread from 1934 -1960 it was a Federal law "money" US paper or coinage could not be filmed. And stage money ,copies, fake what ever was used.
How about The Dark Knight? It's a two-headed coin movie prop... but maybe they made it out of actual Peace dollars (?). Or a really nice error...
In Titanic, during the portrait scene, there is a 1892 Barber dime that Kate pays Leo for payment. AU, looked clean, and Kate Winslet does not know how to handle a coin - I got that comment from a club member!
UHF with Wield Al A 1955 doubled die Denver mint penny was a plot device in the American movie UHF when a rich man cruelly gives a penny to a beggar. The penny is valuable and the beggar ends up with wealth after the rich man's avarice has bankrupted him. The actual 1955 doubled die pennies were from the Philadelphia mint, not Denver.
I saw the move RACE yesterday about Jessie Owens. He was giving money to his father, girlfriend. They were dollar bills and all had the newer reverse, not like the reverse of silver certificate of that time frame.
