Old Coins, New Pics

    Mat, I have a coin with a similar patina - jet black and glossy, perhaps waxed. This is the best I could do with it. Strong direct light to highlight the features, then adjusting the luminosity curve to the positive side of the transfer map. Tough little buggers to edit...

    Indeed. Plus I think that photo would look better with a black background. Look at my max. with the white, being a bright coin with white background didnt help it.

    Still a lovely coin, saw it on ebay.

    Its even harder when you are selling coins! The coin in hand may be beautiful, the photos may be rotten, but to edit it can be misleading even if it shows up the detail better because the colour of the patina can look so different to the coin in hand. The pics of the Florianus in the ''wheres TIA post'' highlight this, and on that occasion all I did was tilt the coin to catch the light, no editing at all. You only have to look at some of the coins on ebay to see the way they have been photoshopped, some of them look blue or purple. uurrrgghhhhh!:(

    I include several pics with all my listings, with various kinds of light. We all know how different coins can look in room-light, sunlight, etc.

    maximinus looks much better, well done.

    I went back and looked at the boots on that fel temp....very nice. also a sweet lookin' belt...I think someone know how to accessorize!
