I bought these two coins at a garage sale but I have no idea what they are. I haven't taken them out of their old 2*2s yet. I will take some better pictures later tonight.

The coin with one character on the reverse is indeed from Japan, obverse inscription is Kanei Tsuho, reverse character "Bun" is a mintmark for Edo (Tokyo). This type, based on the mintmark and details of the "kan" and "ei" characters, was first issued in 1668 and was probably issued for a while afterwards, until about 1700 or so; it is quite common today.

The coin with plain reverse is tougher to ID, because of the poor condition. I _think_ it may be from China, end of the Ming dynasty, Chong Zheng (1628-1644), but I am not as certain of this one.
