No...I don't mean mix....they use to do it so in Economy and the 5-day you could send in like 5 coins for $15 each...but if you sent in 10 you only paid $10 each.... Speedy
Speedy.... I own a bunch of Morgans by ANACS. I think overall they hold up to, and are sometimes better than PCGS and NGC as far as Morgan Dollars go. I know you are an ANACS Fan. ANACS has a special on Gold Grading. I have a $20 Liberty that is iffy as far as I am concerned. I think it is only AU58, but it could possibly grade an MS60, or MS61. Do you think I should take the chance to spend the money to send it to ANACS? Thanks, Bruce
I only have 1 Morgan in a ANACS slab so I can't say anything about their grading.....all of the coins I sent in were sent in before the change with Mr Taylor....and their grading was hard on some coins and not so hard on others....I think Jefferson Nickels and Franklin Halves are the ones they are really hard on....I would say Barber Halves they seem a bit lose on....but I've only seen a few so I can't say for sure. Lets see....the coin is worth about $500 melt....the grading would cost about $30 (10-Days- $15 (max value $2,000/coin is what I would suggest)....that is when you find out how much shipping is... Start another thread and post some photos and maybe we can save you that $30..... To me...it would be worth it....I try to send in all coins that are Key Dates or better dates.....also if I had a coin worth $500+ I would be sending it in--- Speedy
Hey Speedy I have posted a bunch of pics showing this and that with different lighting, angles, etc. on bunches of coins including an 1885CC earlier this year. My avatar is a pic of an 1880S Morgan. I probably took over 20 pics of this coin, and picked this one as the best. DAMN if it don`t look like an MS65 DMPL. It is only an NGC MS64. Not even a PL designation. My point is, I can`t post a pic of my $20 Lib, and ask if you think it is AU58, or MS60. It is only a one grade difference. I can give an opinion on EF40 vs AU58 vs MS62, but this 1898S $20 is so close to either AU or MS, that I can`t grade it. I just wanted to know if you thought I should submit it to ANACS, since I know you like ANACS, and they have a GOLD special.
Their Gold special is something I've never used...I think you have to send in more than 1 coin to get that deal and since I don't collect gold coins that isn't good for me... When a coin is that close I would send it in....but I can't tell you what to do....I can just say what I would do.....but with AU58 and MS60 there is much you can tell.....if there is any detail lost...any luster lost....and wear of any kind it would be AU.... I know how you feel as I've had the same problem....most of the time I ask a few of my friends that I trust with grading and leave it there. I saw a coin this week in a PCGS slab AU58....if that coin would have been raw I would have said MS for sure...I asked the dealer and he agreed...but there is that fine line of wear and after a min. I found a bit that I think took it down. Speedy
