I'm relatively new at collecting and have been a member here for about 1.5 years. I have been very put off and frankly intimidated by responses I received to a variety of posts - both questions and sharing pictures of coins I had. One of the first times I posted pictures of coins I had and liked and thought were cool someone came out and criticized them in a very mean way. It was a real turn off.

Do people really post opinions here knowing they are false just to mislead people? I really hope nobody tried to mislead me like that.

All I came here for is to learn and share and connect with other collectors. But I never did get a sense of camaraderie. It often seems like a bunch of angry people ready to jump in and criticize, as though that was the goal - who can criticize first or loudest or wittiest. Not fun.

I appreciate the OP's post and maybe people will now be nicer around here. Time will tell I guess.

    Maybe this thread?
    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/perth-mint.374982/

It's best to stick to the basics, especially when it's a simple coin thread. Hopefully all who tried weaving current issues into that thread will refrain from doing so going forward.

To be perfectly honest that thread has nothing to do with why I posted this current thread...I have no doubt that the thread that ddddd is referring to was hijacked by a troll!
The reason I say that is they tried to make a political statement out of a non political thread.
By twisting the words and facts.
I have no remorse over that situiation.
Funny how a member of 9 years >300 post and >75 likes showed up and decided to crap in the thread,
Then proceeded to tell amember who is a citizen of Australia who lives there ....what was actually going on in his country!
Now how strange is that ? I ask you ?
This thread pertains to the members here who play by the rules....and are members who post at least once a month.... not the trolls who come in to cause problems or issues with members who are here to
    Talk about the hobby.
This here thread is addressing the members who should be respectful of each other.....and not allowing outsides to muddy the waters so to speak.

Paddy I'm going to have to disagree with you. The thread was simply a person asking about the Perth Mint but you had to throw in current issues. The person wasn't looking for a Covid thread but you took it there. That made the person upset and led to the reply. I recommend reevaluating your actions in that thread and refraining from doing something like that in the future when it's just a coin thread.

Thats your interpretation , but was not my intention ,as my answer was based on facts not political motive.
I will also add this...to this thread and that is this....
My intentions of this current thread....is nothing more than taking responsibility for my actions and asking to be forgiven.
It is no way to elevate my status in this community! Its not for a pat on the back!
I like everyone else likes to be given postive compliments, however not the propose of this thread.... actions speak louder than words!
My words as well everyone elses....words.
The true intentions of this is two fold....asking forgiveness if I hurt you.
And making others think......and respect one another...nothing else!
So now thats is clear.....as interpretations can be misunderstood and I want the membership crystal clear of why I posted this thread..... and Im not open for any other debate or second guessing of why!

Since I've joined Coin Talk, I've learned quite a bit of helpful info concerning coin collecting from truly dedicated and sincere collectors. Also, there have been the diatribes and pettiness from a few blow-hards. But all in all, information that has enabled me to expand my legacy collection so that I can hand it over to my daughter with the hope that she will continue to add to our heritage and pass it on to future generations. Thanks for your revelations, Paddy54.

On a second point. Debate is healthy when done properly. That means that both parties respect each other and are willing to argue either side of the subject.

GREAT THREAD. I think if we all watch what and how we phrase it we will be better off. I really do think that this forum is fantastic. I have been at this for 40+ years and I learn something new each day. Some I do not understand (Ancients) and others I know quite well. If I offer an opinion it is MINE and I try to be fair when you (collectively) ask to GTG. What really turns me off is when you (collectively) start entering the extraneous, ie religion politics or anything other than a discussion on coins etc.

That's par for the course on ANY forum. It's simply the nature of the beast. Try visiting some college sports forums . . . CT (even when V. Kurt was here) is like a church social compared to those places. Forums are simply not the place for people who get their feelings hurt easily.

    Paddy,

You're a good man for bringing this up, and for taking some of the blame. It takes a strong and sincerely good person to own up to ones mistakes.

Unfortunately some people in life seem to always let their mean out.

On more than a few occasions I have just shut down this app on my tablet, in disgust with what I was reading.

I do disagree that we have all done it. Maybe we have one way or another, in life, but not everybody has done it here.

Thanks again, and once again - your a good man!

I want to clear something up. I looked at that linked thread...how can the OP (i.e. @cplradar ) hijack his own thread? Also, at least one of the facts you (@Paddy54 ) presented in your initial response to the OP (i.e. number of dead Americans) was entirely irrelevant to the OP's question. IMHO of course - any offense meant by me or taken by anyone who reads this opinion is of course something we can discuss.

Indeed, we all have opinions and can respectfully contribute and even agree to disagree sometimes...it should be done respectfully...and can even be done without even referring to the other party/opinion, in fact...but by simply giving YOUR opinion, input, etc. I especially liked and related to the input/feedback posts from Approved and dimeguy...thanks.

I've said honest and straightforward comments at times and have hurt peoples feelings unintentionally.. There have been times where I know not to comment again knowing how certain members respond. It takes their very first thread to know what to expect in their future threads.
Especially those who only accept what they want to hear.. Usually not the truth :(

I've apologized plenty of times for my "snarky" moments as some have called me.

    Nice thread @Paddy54

    Peace :angelic:
