I don’t have pictures of all my nice coins in classic ANACS slabs, so I bought one to show it off here
Were you aware that Anacs made an early-ish green print slab that was actually smaller than the norm?? I discovered this about 2 years ago but i wasnt sure who to tell. The smaller slab i refer to has only a 5 digit serial # >>>> exhibit A>>>> I also noticed, it has an extra lip, around the part of the insert where the reverse sticker get attached. Have not seen another
Yup. Notice the gold hologram? That is one of the oddities of the missing #s, like 7xxxx. There's no clear indication of when the XXnnnn were loaded into the database. In fact, the certification search only appears in 2014. So it could be much later than I was thinking and so the inserted numbers could be later in sequence than they numerics suggest. Will have to explore that, see if we can figure out when the slab size changed.
I think I have one of the smaller ones. I'll have to go look. It was a recent purchase and I thought the holder was "smaller". Now you have me curious. I need to check.
Thanks. I admit, I did a little happy dance when I got the coin after I won the online auction. Pictures are from Great Collections. The coin is nicer than the pics. I plan to get it re-imaged once I get my set-up running.
This Morgan The Proof Kennedy serial #376353 (Post 58) and the Proof Franklin Serial # 512091 are in the smaller anacs slab. Thought I would throw that in here because I have also wondered the same thing.
Since this was last updated, several "blue mountains" ANACS label SWH (see @dwhiz post #7 in this thread) with cert#s in the 92 million range (92000000+) surfaced on fleaBay. They were not found in the ANACS lookup. I corresponded with the ANACS web guru and he determined there was a deficiency in the database query that was missing coins without numeric grades. That fix unlocked entire areas of the database, 92M (92 Million block) which contains many small runs of samples, traceable to 2005 era shows. The 9/4/2007 date is fantastically old for a SWH. I had thought they were retired shortly after the sale to Anderson press in March 2005 when the blue slant tops started up. Other now findable blocks include 70M and even 700T (trillion), e.g. 700816021100001.
I also found an ANA (gold hologram) SWH from the dual-use (ANA / Amos) to add to below: it's RE3273 an 1879S MS62 Morgan, which would put it one in from the right edge when I update the above.
I usually don't take pictures of the whole slab, because to me the coin is what is important. This 1797 half cent is in an ANACS VF-35 slab. I had ANACS grade after one of the "big two" body bagged it for "cleaning." Twenty + years ago those guys knew how to grade Morgan Dollars, but they didn't have clue when it came to grading early copper. They body bagged early copper coins I had that were condition census coins. Years later, they received the same coins and put big grades one them after I sold them. Don't worry I sold the coins raw to EAC collectors and got my money. My grade for this piece is VF-30.
