Ok, I spent my whole budget(ish) on one coin that many here wouldn’t buy at all but …

There’s a German saying that roughly translates to “Better to have one or not to have one?”

I know it’s not optimal but they’re rare and at this price, I think it’s worth it. Now I feel bad about all the justification before the pics but here you go.

If you like your coin, doesn't matter how little or how much you pay!!

Nice Dahlonega $5. Solid gold type piece! Fun Fact: $5 Gold is the only single denomination one can collect a complete US mint mark set in.

What’s the original saying? Did the coin grade or not? Even if not, it sure is a special coin!

Hey, it is a Dahlonega coin. I have only owned one ever, in 45 years of collecting, and that was the only time I ever spent four figures on a coin.

You'd have to mess that sucker up a whole lot more to make it undesirable.

In fact, given that it's gold and has that magical pre-Civil War "D" mintmark, it would still be a quite desirable coin if you laid it down in the parking lot and backed a truck over it. ;)

Not bad at all! Very nice, in fact.

Hm. I don't see anything there I would've interpreted as "graffiti". Sure, a scratch or two, but the marks all look random to me?

I would have zero qualms about owning that coin. Beautiful.

    Yeah, who knows.

Myself, I wondered about the area near Liberty's eyebrow. It's easy to imagine something that looks like faint lettering there, like a light, uneven partial counterstamp or something. But that could just be pareidolia on my part.
That could just be a reeding mark?

Nor how much anyone else likes it. The only one that matters is that guy staring back at you in the mirror.

I think the marks to the left and the right of the neck look like graffiti.

Regardless, owning Dahlonega gold is very cool. As long as the OP likes the coin and knew what he was getting, then there is nothing wrong. I've bought plenty of items that most collectors wouldn't like at all and I was quite happy to do so.

Areas "2" and "3" look like graffiti to me while "1" looks like hits (probably not enough on its own to cause a detail grade)

Good eye potty. I'm thinking you circled it a bit short though. I'm seeing possible more 'graffiti' in my circle.

I posted comments and neglected to first state that I'd take that Dahlonega every single day of the week. Awesome coin @H8_modern . Congrats on a beauty.

Area 2 is my thought. Under a loupe there is a W or M scratched in front of the neck. That said, for a 70% discount, I’m more than happy to take it.
