I have a 1916D Dime and considering getting it slabbed, ANACS certified it genuine in 1980. Not sure it's worth it though.
I haven’t bought my first coin yet (got a couple of bids in at an auction house), but it seems to me that if one-half of one percent submitted to a top tier grader are counterfeit, the percentage on EBay must be pretty high. But I also think everything not slabbed looks cleaned (since I learned about that a month ago).
The ANACS opinion in 1980 should be pretty credible. Of course, you may still want to slab it for other reasons. ANACS declared a 42/41 dime of mine counterfeit in the 1980's and enabled me to get a refund from the dealer I bought it from.
Welcome to CT. What grade did they give it? A 1916D Merc in an old soap box slab/anacs slab Could get a very nice premium from a Soap box collector. What does the slab look like?
I don't wish to speak for the OP but I don't think ANACS was slabbing coins in 1980. I would be interested to know what type of ANACS certification the OP has, if any. (The OP's profile is missing, so they may not be around to answer )
Yeah I thought of that as I was typing, and why I asked for a photo of the cert/holder. I have seen @Tallulah active the past couple of days. So hopefully.
