Hi Kevin. Interesting find. It does show some of the clad layer missing but I do not think it is a Mint Error. I collect Missing Clad Layer error coins and one thing for sure is that the lettering usually looks normal and more pronounced than the quarter in question. The letters on your coin look faded such as when it's eroded away when given an acid bath. Also, yours seems underweight. Here is a example that I own.

Definitely not an error. It looks someone took a grinder to it until the cladding came off (especially the reverse).

A grinder would make it smooth, would not be able to read the letters.

All of the Mike Diamond articles are amazing. But I think this article it's not really related to this quarter in question.

I just figured I throw it out there, if the clad layers were missing, no clad would be showing, easy to see clad is still showing on both sides ...

Cool  .. Also, the OP quarter has no upset rim.

Attacked by acid. Not an error. The perfect centering and blurred surface details are characteristic. You'll also find that the coin's diameter is smaller than normal and the reeding has a "scalloped" appearance.

I agree, acid, if it was grinded the surface would be smooth, if mint error it would be perfectly struck.
