Bought a unc roll of 1960-d and found this guy hiding in there. Any ideas on what it may be?[IMG][IMG][IMG]

First, welcome to the neighborhood @joyzmax33 !

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like it could be some sort of dirt smeared across the coin. Don't take my word for it, but just because the person who sold you the roll claimed they were all uncirculated doesn't mean much, either.

Could be some sort of Planchet Defect or Weird Lamination.
Interesting find.. Thanks for sharing :watching:

I have a coin similar to it and mine is a type of substance smeared across it I'll get pictures soon, also if not that it could be a type of improper alloy mix known as a "woody".

    Thanks,
    Jacob

If you could wrap a finger in thin plastic or a thin glove , feel the surface and try to tell if and how much difference there is between that area and the flat surface. That might help tell if it is a fabrication problem, or surface blemish.

Roll a Q tip over the area (gently) and see if it picks
    up any substance.

    Could be verti slim.

It looks like grease or some similar substance was struck with the coin. Just as a die can be grease filled, the grease can adhere to the coin in striking. I have received proof sets from the mint with such grease.

Thanks guys. I rolled a qtip across to see if some of the substance would come off. It's not moving. Even tried an acetone bath and no change. Just a strange find. Something I have never seen
