This is so absolutly true it becomes funny at times. Every radio, TV station, newpapers, even on billboards there is this never ending CENSUS stuff. The governments problem is this is only done mostly only in one language so how can millions read that when they just got here? :goofer: They need this info for thier own money problems. Our coins? Who cares? They make them and it's up to you to do something with them. At one bank I go to every time I get to a teller they always ask if I want some of those little dollars. Then they say no one does so don't feel bad.
There are always news stories when a new coin or bill design comes out, but the only people who read them are people who are interested to begin with. Those 16-year-old cashiers aren't scanning the paper for the latest coin news. Trust me, I work for a newspaper, and we all know our readers are mostly middle aged or older.
Also, you can't find them anywhere. I really wanted to collect the presidential dollars, so after the Washington coin came out I was fortunate enough to see one in the cash drawer at my local barber (he's the type of guy who would have customers who might use them). After that, I never saw another one, anywhere, ever. I asked at my bank (TCF) if they had any and they told me they didn't get them in so I would have to keep checking back to see if anyone had brought one in recently. Eventually I ended up buying most at a coin shop for twice the face value. So the point I want to make is that even when people do read a story that this coin is coming out, they never see it, and then they forget about it. Americans won't use dollar coins. Banks don't give them out, cashiers don't give them out in change, so where are you supposed to get them? I get more Canadian money in change than half-dollar or dollar coins.
