Prayers for your successful surgery and quick recovery Donna. And yes, that's EXACTLY what credit cards are for!
Wishing you a speedy recovery, @DonnaML I've had both my eyes done and it was QUICK and painless. I think it took just 2 or three days for each eye until I could stop wearing the shaded plastic eye shield.
My experience with the cataract surgery was that the first day was scary. They tell you when to remove the bandages but it took 24 hours before things look right and you will have a lot of eyedrops to do on schedule for a few weeks including while you are at the show. The laser surgery is another matter. They did not offer it to me because there are types of astigmatism that don't respond to it and the recovery from that at the same time might be the limiting factor. Best wishes. Do realize that your old glasses won't help so you may end up taking the lens out of one eye for the show. Strong Dollar tree glasses may be worth the $1.
@DonnaML: Wishing you a quick and perfect recovery for your eye surgery. Surely you will be able to enjoy the convention even by using only one eye.
Thanks to all of you. I am told that recovery from laser surgery is supposed to be a lot faster than from the old-fashioned kind. That sounds like a reasonable answer to a question that had already occurred to me, that I need to ask the doctor: in between the surgeries, given that I'll still need my current glasses for my right eye, but the current left lens won't do my left eye any good at all, how am I supposed to function?
Ask your optician to take out the no longer needed lens and have them cut and insert a plano lens. A plano lens is just a piece of non optical glass (or plastic if that's the case). Non prescription sunglasses for instance are called plano sunglasses. Good luck with your surgery. Not to minimize the procedure, because it is scary for the patient, but these surgeries have become very routine. Hopefully that adds a bit of comfort to your anxiety.
I had a different kind of laser eye surgery years ago but with the same glasses problem. There's no perfect answer. You can wear your old glasses, or remove remove the left lens, or not wear your glasses. Either way your brain will adapt pretty quickly (within a few hours) and you can muddle through until you get the other eye done.
Ok everyone.. Next week is the event! I will only be there on Saturday. Hope to meet some of you. I will be wearing my CoinTalk button and my ID will say paddyman98. Just approach me whenever! We will take a picture together!
So.. Has anyone here gone yet. I'm sure some of you have.. If not maybe Saturday. I will be there in the morning!
Yes, it seemed livelier than I had expected on Friday morning, a bit slower by late afternoon. Bring your own water, none available on site and no deli on block.
