Catherine, for the first time, will attend this show with me next weekend! I’m so excited! https://www.northwestcoinclub.com/nwcc-money-show.html I have three coins on my list so far that I’ll be looking for at this show, as follows. 1) Classic head cent - hoping to find one in the XF range 2) Seated Liberty quarter - will be seeking a MS example here 3) Seated Liberty dollar - I think it shouldn’t be too hard to find a nice AU piece at this venue We are going down to The Twin Cities Friday next week, bringing the puppies with us, and spending the night. Stay tuned……
I looked at a previous year recap on the show's website and I was very impressed by the efforts made to involve young numismatists. Enjoy your visit and happy hunting with your wish list.
Sounds great! Hoping you both have a great time and wishing you the best in finding the three coins you want. Please keep us posted and post photos.
Yes, out of all the shows I've attended, this one is where I've seen the most younger people roaming about. You see most dealers handing out freebies to the YN's as well. Refreshing to see.
Thanks, Denis! The hunt is most of the fun, in my opinion. Tom Reynolds is always at this show and I'm looking forward to seeing what he has for Classic Head cents.
Thanks, Dave! I'll keep you all updated next week, and of course there will be pictures of whatever treasures I walk away with.
@samclemens3991 , you mentioned about taking in this show in one of your postings not too long ago. @Eric Babula , what say you? It isn't that far of a trek over for you, no?
@BuffaloHunter . Thanks for the notification. Unfortunately I am scheduled to work a job from March20th thru the 22nd. Hope you find your coins and have a good time. James
It's about a 5-hour drive to get there. I'll have to talk to the calendar-keeper and see what's going on. My birthday is the 26th, so it sure would be nice to go there and get myself some birthday presents!!!
I made a lanyard for my show adventure. Many a time I’ve called out what I’m looking for and a dealer will grab it out of the extra boxes behind the table. Now they can see what I’m looking for hanging around my neck. Once I started looking at price lists, I revised my grade targets.
That's a great idea if you're looking for only a few things. Mine would probably say, "Want List: Everything!" Too bad the budget doesn't allow for that! :'(
Oh, don’t get me wrong, this dog gets distracted by hubcaps from all vehicles as well. I’ve done many a show where my budgeted amount is met and I didn’t cross anything off my list!
Well, the weekend didn’t pan out completely how we’d hoped. Catherine is sick so this morning I waited until the dogs vet appointment, took the one pooch on that car ride 40 minutes each way, then went and got Catherine’s prescriptions from her doctor visit. 2-1/2 hour drive to the Twin Cities and I was on the bourse floor at about 1:30PM. It was absolutely nuts in there. This show, I made a beeline to the EAC guy that I mention above. He had some nice pieces to show me but I’ve had emptied a good portion of my wallet in the first few minutes so I walked on. From there I did my normal thing for the first lap, fast pace and not spending a lot of time at any table. I make notes of anything that catches my eye or, if the dealer obliges, I’ll take a photo or two. Here’s a few photos I took. The first is a little display a dealer had for Norse American medals. I had never seen the gold piece or the supersized version. Quite cool and quite spendy! I bought my thin medal from this guy a few years ago. The second pic is a dollar I might go back and look at again tomorrow if it’s still there. My pic doesn’t show the nice colors very well. I picked up a few things today. The running boar hard times token is one I’ve bid on a few times but never won one so this was a nice score. The dealer took $90. The Dakota medal was a steal at $5. The 100 ounce silver bar was NOT a steal (even spot price was a spanking) but this was a request from Catherine to buy. One dealer had four Wildman coins but they were of the smaller versions and the designs didn’t trip my trigger. One dealer had two each of the classic head cent and seated liberty quarter that I’m after that I made note of and I’ll go back to that table to make up my mind in the morning. If I pull the trigger on one each of those, I’m looking at $2K+ disappearing from my pocket. Since I had my surgery, this is the most walking I’ve done. Didn’t feel like walking anymore, or driving for that matter, so went to the restaurant in the hotel and had a nice Philly and fries. More to come tomorrow!
That's more Norse medals than one tends to see at one time-it's a cool display! Congrats on the nice additions and it looks like a good meal too!
I've attended that show a number of times in the past, but I haven't made it the past few years. I unfortunately had a very sad personal event happen this year that prevented me from going at all. I'm glad that it's still a well attended and busy show.
A little late wrapping this up, but better late than never. Yesterday at the show saw me walking in about an hour after opening. It was quite busy again. I talked with my LCS guys and they said that they sold out of gold (and had brought a lot of it). I stayed most of the afternoon and put some nice pieces into my registry type set. I did go back and purchase the seated dollar that I photographed the day before. It has prooflike characteristics. The proof buffalo nickel is my first, been waiting a long time to add one of these to my herd. The capped bust half dime has some nice color to it. I sent a picture of the shipwreck piece and Catherine replied “buy it”. The gold coin is a good candidate for a regrade as it is super super nice looking to be in a 62 slab. Incredibly happy with the coins that I came home with. I was completely shot after walking around all day, leg cramps telling me to knock it off. Instead of taking in the hotel restaurant or driving some where, I ordered in. This place has the best hoagies in the Metro area.
