First off, not a one of the price guides out there is worth the paper and ink it would take to print a single sheet of them. The values listed in them are worse than worthless. And I say worse because, well, your post is a good example - they grossly mislead people. And you're just looking for values, imagine if you were looking to buy a coin and used the values you find in the price guides. You could easy be out a lot of money. My point - the price guides can even be harmful, which puts them way beyond worthless in my opinion.

Just for giggles I looked up your coin on Heritage, they haven't even sold an '87-S PR70 DCAM since 2011, and it went for $44 back then. And values have dropped considerably since then. They sold 3 ten coin lots of 70 DCAM dimes with the dates ranging from '77-'89, back in 2013 and one of them went for $282. So that's roughly $28 each per PR70 DCAM coin. And that tells me the prices you're seeing of $8-$20 asked on ebay, well they sound about right I'd say. Basically it cost more to get the coins graded and slabbed than they are even worth. Which also explains why the biggest auction company in the world hasn't sold any in 5 years or so.

Another thing I'd mention is that PCGS all by itself has slabbed 646 1987-S dimes as PF70 DCAM. That makes 'em pretty dang common, and thus the values being what they are.

Even in PR70 DCAM there are few moderns out there that are worth the cost of grading fees.
