I think the toning looks natural but I would guess that in hand, it looks a lot less dramatic due to some image processing.
PCGS so-called "true"views are almost always over saturated, and always far more red than reality. I'll bet in hand this coin is quite attractive and naturally toned.
Ok, First thank you everyone for your responses. I don't remember a toning thread were there is 100% agreement on the originality of the surface. NT all the way. This coin resided in a cardboard 2X2 since NOV 1973. It was placed into a vinyl flip provided by PCGS sometime in 2015. Last month it got a quick dip in acetone and want to PCGS for grading. What could go wrong? It came back Thursday, Genuine UNC Details 91 - Questionable Color, I am livid! A beautiful, original surface, $800+ coin, carefully stored in a cool dark place for the last 47 years comes back QC. What can I do with it now?
I realize I have the option of using a different TPG, but holy cow. I have an honest coin, and a unanimous panel of experts. A gorgeous coin that has been reduced to ebay fodder. Now I have to spend more money to correct the wrong of a company who passes them selves off to be the best. When does the fun start? This is no longer a pleasureful hobby. I hope I do not have to go through this with each raw coin that I carefully purchased back in the day.
I know and I understand that's why U also said call them and I said that first. CT does have a number of experts or members that are very good with coins but a TPG doesn't care about that.
