I originally put in the 1300 EUR maximum bid because I needed a gold coin from the 7th century and that one was the best I could find on the market at the time, but luckily I bought the Umayyad Gold Dinar of al-Malik from 699 for less money, while the Sisebut gold coin was bought by somebody else.
I have 90 AV coins from 600-99AD/ mostly Byzantine/ Merovingian/ Lombards/ Islamic/ Axumite/ Huna/ Kidarites/ etc.
Hopefully my luck will continue tomorrow and somebody will outbid me on the German gold coin from Hamburg and the Afghani mohur of Timur Shah Durrani.
Baldwin's contacted me and I have made them an offer for the unsold lot I am interested in, hopefully they will accept it.
I have no clue who/ but they ruined my day/ I was intent on adding it to my collection of medieval gold coinage.
In a little over an hour, the lots at the Spink auction should become available, so cheer up, just don't bid on any of the coins I find interesting.
The Spink auction that was supposed to start today has been delayed until Monday and instead of it this went up: https://live.spink.com/auctions/4-D6U6GD/24004-british-and-world-coins-and-medals-spring-auction
That coin was from Brabant/ the Liege gold went way higher! Liege coinage had very small mintages. Compared to US gold/ all are a steal!
I know that your coin is from Brabant, I meant the Liege one that sold for 20 something thousand EUR a little before I posted that.
These (Liege) coins are probably known from 2-3 exs. At 20K they are a bargain! I seen US Double Eagles from late 1920s sell for 300K that over 200 graded exs exist. That coin I got yesterday (5 known) and I got it for 2200! Had it been a US coin/ over 1 M+
No/ too modern. I prefer coins struck before 1915/ with some exceptions/ design like 1931 Yugoslavia 4 Dukatu Croatia 1941 gold coins/ Bulgarian AV 4 Dukaten Ferdinand I / Boris III Danzig AV 25 Gulden 1930/ US St. Gaudens Double Eagles...
In the end I won 4 gold coins at the auction, and I was also pleased to see that several other people from Croatia won lots at the auction.
