I inherited this Notgeld from my GGrandfather who served in WWI. It is a 20 Heller note from Stadt Steyr, Austria. I am unable to locate any similar on my internet searches. I am mostly interested in the subject matter in the image on the left and the current value if any. Thanks.
I don't have any info on that note, but the exact note was for sale on eBay last month for $5 and did not sell. Similar notes from Stadt Steyr (10 Heller) are for sale on European sites for 1.90 euros or so.
I'm not entirely certain what is going on in the vignette but I would not be surprised if in a few years the supreme court says it's legal in all 50 states.
Not sure about the design either. But the flag is the Austrian red-white-red flag (there are similar notgeld notes from Steyr that show it in color), and the men might be workers. After WW1, with the end of the monarchy, the socialists/workers got more influence in Steyr too. Christian
Interesting takes on the image....I did think it looked a bit Art-Deco Socialist. I guess I assumed it was some sort of local folklore or something.
Just in case you want to pursue notgeld, maybe this will help http://www.krausebooks.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=notgeld+paper
