Have you ever come across any coins from the Khmer Empire? Its only coins listed on Numista are made of tin-lead!: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/khmer_empire-1.html
Seems unhealthy to strike coins in lead/ ugly metal but also toxic! Not much is known from that area.
That is what I was thinking as well, and the Khmer Empire was a very rich country, so that makes it even crazier!
It looks closer to the Cambodia Fuang issues of the 19th century. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/in...i=&b=&ie=&u=&a=&dg=&m=&f=&t=&w=&mt=&g=&se=&d=
