Nonsense! We've been though this countless times on this very forum. Fact is you knew better and are now making more excuses. Just a few weeks ago you listed a bunch of coins on eBay (not your usual account) and advertised here. A quick check of the feedback from that account will show that you have bought from it using your usual account, so what does this tell us? Why play innocent? Seriously, Detecto.. there is nothing wrong with a learning curve, but you take things too far.

Remember, just because someone is selling coins online doesn't automatically make them an expert. What you might think is common sense in determining if a coin is cleaned might not be so common sense to others, even other collectors. I'm willing to bet only 1 out of 1000 people would say that coin is cleaned if asked randomly on the street.

Just give the seller the benefit of the doubt, return it if you don't like it, it's that easy. No reason to get your panties knotted up on every eBay buy you make. ;)

Just go onto Ebay tonight and see how many coins you can get sniped out of. It will help take your mind off of this coin.

eBay is clearly going to cause Detecto to have a heart attack at such a young age. I think he should just ban himself from eBay to live a long happy and prosperous life. ;)

I must have missed the memo. I didn't realize that it was pick on Detecto day on Coin Talk:)

We don't pick on Detecto, we just try to knock some sense into him every day. Seems like there's a new eBay thread where he has to express his unhappiness with it, which I think every member is well aware of. ;)

At first I thought the learning curve was either very steep or very long. Then, after reading more of his posts, I thought he simply was someone who took a few steps back every once in a while. Now, I'm not really sure if his learning curve is a curve, but rather is a quite long and complex infinite loop.

I agree. Seems like everyday is pick on Detecto day. Give the dude a break.

We give him many breaks, but as soon as we do, he goes and does something like this again.

I think he craves the attention.

    From the listing:

    RETURN POLICY
Buyers may return any item bought for any reason. A full refund, minus shipping and appropriate Ebay fees will be issued in the form of a check or Paypal transaction. In the event that an item is mistakenly grossly misrepresented, a full refund of the purchase price, shipping out and shipping return amount will be issued, upon the request of the buyer. Returned items must be received back in their original holder no later than 30 days (40 days for non-US buyers) from the ending date of the auction.

So just send the guy a note and send it back. What's so hard about that? Annoying? Yes. But worth opening a case on the guy -- NO!

If I recall from another brilliant post here, mrbrklyn likes cleaned coins -- maybe see if you can sell it to him?

    Moving on...

Normally I would say the same thing but:

#1- IIRC, Detecto raked a kid over the coals for negging someone too soon, not too long ago.
#2- He posted another thread about reporting the seller for an item that was pretty obviouly not against the rules or really even decieving.
#3- He then posts this thread.

If it were a simply one time brain fart, that would be one thing.

Maybe we would if he, even just once, would the same for others. He has already gotten more breaks than you may realize.

    Maybe so.
However, it's kind of a downer reading thread after thread of just ragging on dudes though.
Maybe I've done something similar. I've be accusatory of a "troll" now and again.
Just seems like there may be a better way to deal with stuff. Like:
"Detecto, give the dude a break [eh?]. He's a good seller blah blah don't open a case. Just a word of advice."
    Just my two cents.

Some people act much harsher online then they do in real life. They usually would not say that kind of stuff to a person's face. After being online for over 12 years, I learn to let it roll of my shoulders. Usually people who act like that have had some kind of troubled life.

I try to bring more of a sarcastic humorous tone in my advice. So when you read my posts, picture me as if I was your best friend giving you s**t for doing dumb stuff with a big smile on my face while I'm telling you the same thing I told you last week. ;)

But I'm pretty blunt in real life too, I don't sugar coat everything. Some people need to hear the truth, it hurts at times but it's necessary I think.

It looks to me as if the seller is the one getting picked on.
You don't see many with a 30 day return policy.
That's pretty darn good if you ask me.
