I guess mine is plated. Part of the edge looks like it's supposed to, but most of it is golden like the coin. Thank you Chris, for helping me get to the bottom of that. You know it drives me crazy not to have clear answers as to why something is the way it is. lol Also though, mine is a Philadelphia. You would have thought they would have chosen a coin that didn't have a big gouge on the face to plate.
